Job description

What you will do:

The Systems Engineer I will focus on ensuring the reliability and continuous improvement of test systems used for researching Electra’s green iron process. The ideal candidate will have experience in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, an aptitude for identifying corrective actions, and initiative to drive system enhancements. You will work closely with teams of engineers and scientists to ensure reliability and recommend and implement improvements to facilitate our evolving development efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical system issues. Develop and implement corrective action plans to address root causes of issues.
  • Help define and establish preventative maintenance procedures to improve system availability.
  • Monitor system performance over time to identify trends and make data-driven decisions to improve system reliability and uptime.
  • Support continuous improvement and rapid prototyping projects, leveraging data and feedback to streamline operations and reduce downtime.
  • Develop and implement action plans to enhance system uptime and reliability.
  • Collaborate with other teams to help translate research, manufacturing, and operational requirements into functional test systems.
  • Provide technical support to operations and development teams, addressing any issues related to system performance.
  • Ensure safe and reliable operation of all test platforms and help develop safe operating procedures.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system designs, modifications, and change management.
  • Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What we need you to bring to the team (Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field of study; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design, concepts, principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in designing and building systems, with a focus on integrating mechanical and electrical components.
  • Experience with fluid flow or pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Fundamental knowledge of integrating circuits and electrical systems for power, control, and data acquisition on mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with coding languages (Python, C++, SQL, etc.).
  • Experience with programming PLC control systems or embedded systems on Arduino IDE or similar.

Compensation:

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $72,000.00 - $85,000.00 yearly salary and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
