Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering seeks a Systems Engineer to lead integration and verification across satellite and ground segments. Qualifications

The Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering organization is a multi-disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted government and international customers with specific solutions that have the potential to scale. ALG Engineering leads the development and delivery of targeted and scalable solutions for custom space and terrestrial applications. ALG collaborates closely with Amazon Leo to leverage the constellation of advanced satellites to provide seamless and efficient communication capabilities to meet the needs of our customers. The ALG Engineering team is seeking highly technical and talented individuals who are passionate about creating unique solutions that result in a positive impact on a global scale.

The Systems Engineer will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to design, integrate, and test innovative product solutions. The Systems Engineer will work closely with colleagues throughout Amazon Leo’s inter-disciplinary team and collaborate with key partners and suppliers to ensure our system exceeds customer expectations. The Systems Engineer must be responsive, flexible, innovative, and able to succeed within a collaborative, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.

As a member of the ALG Engineering Systems Engineering, Integration, Test, and Manufacturing organization, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the architecture development, requirements definition & derivation, interface development, integration, test, verification, and validation of one or more of the following: the satellite bus, RF payloads, optical payloads, custom ground terminals, or custom user terminals. This includes testing, analyzing, and optimizing the particular space segment and satellite subsystems or ground segment and terminals being developed, and ensuring that it meets the needs of the customer and target application.

System verification efforts include functional and performance testing and analysis through various environmental conditions as required to ensure system integrity.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in space and ground systems design, integration, and verification across the development lifecycle. This candidate should enjoy taking ownership over complex problems and delivering well-executed results of high-quality and can work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that provides significant autonomy to be creative in devising and verifying various engineering approaches to meet technical and programmatic requirements.

Key job responsibilities

• Responsible for all aspects of space and ground segment systems engineering including performing preliminary concept development, trade studies, CONOPS definition, requirements decomposition and allocation, interface requirements definition, requirements verification and validation, support to integration and test operations, anomaly resolution, risk management, and schedule execution
• Collaborates with technical program management and product management leadership to ensure successful program execution
• Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop, and verify space segment products
• Deep-dives into satellite subsystems functions and interfaces and develop integrated satellite system designs and solutions
• Coordinates and communicates with subsystem cross-functional engineering teams to ensure system execution
• Participate in software-to-hardware integration and test activities to ensure mission functionality pre- and post-launch operations
• Perform technical data analysis, verify, and maintain systems configurations in accordance with defined constraints and operational requirements
• Performs various analyses to optimize the satellite system and/or system architecture
• Resolves cross-functional technical issues using facts and data to determine the optimal technical approach
• Develop and improve systems engineering processes and rigor

These solutions are tailored to meet the needs of government and international customers for both space-based and terrestrial applications. The Systems Engineering, Integration, Test, and Manufacturing organization under ALG Engineering plays a vital role in the entire life cycle of the development of an engineering solution, including architecture development, requirements and interface definition through assembly, integration, and test (AI&T), verification, and post-delivery and operational support.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in space vehicle, bus, RF payload, optical payload, or ground terminal integration and test or related industry experience, with focus on systems engineering
• 5+ years of experience in Space and ground systems engineering principles and techniques; Power, mass, and other technical performance budgets; Requirements analysis and flow-down; Design verification and validation processes; Configuration management; Satellite level integration and test processes
• 5+ years of experience in spacecraft and ground terminal systems engineering, design, or a related field, with hands-on experience in satellite and ground terminal design and integration.
• 5+ years of experience with the derivation and maintenance of requirements from a system level down to lower levels
• 5+ years of experience developing system level budgets (power, dV, pointing, link, etc.) and track the budget throughout the development lifecycle
• Hands‑on experience with spacecraft and ground terminal integration, flatsat testing, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, or mission operations
• 5+ years of experience in the use of standard electronic lab test equipment (i.e. network analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, multimeters, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent
• Computational problem solving and test automation/optimization in one or more of the following: Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, C/C++, Docker, Rust on a Linux platform.
• Experience working in cloud infrastructures (AWS) with strong working knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 subnetting and L1-L6 networking
• Experience in verification plan and test plan development related to established test standards (MIL-STD-810, DO-160)
• Familiarity with satellite communications, ground terminals, or DoD networks
• Experience with satellite or terrestrial communications systems and antenna theory
• Experience with communications theory and RF systems: OFDM, MIMO, polarization, spread spectrum, matching, S-parameters, losses, coherence, etc.
• Working knowledge of RF front‑end components, modem systems, GNSS, and link‑level performance
• Experience with RF and/or network measurement equipment, including but not limited to spectrum/signal/network generators/analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
• Proficiency with software development and hardware integration related to satellite payloads or ground systems
• Experience systems engineering space and/or ground systems development efforts including meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.
• High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive; resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction
• Excellent oral and written communication and leadership skills with strong sense of ownership and drive
• Experience in working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies
• Experience as the technical lead, leading groups of engineers and managing resources in system requirement development and design campaigns
• Experience with embedded software or FPGA design
• Experience with design or test of circuit boards with complex microcontrollers, system-on-chip (SOCs), or FPGAs
