Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer (VDI) on-site in Newington, VA to lead design, administration, and security of a large-scale VDI environment for a DoD customer. The role emphasizes Horizon, vSphere, automation, and secure desktop solutions, with a senior-service mindset and cross-team collaboration.

The ideal candidate has TS/SCI clearance, a BS degree, 8+ years of experience, CompTIA Security+ certification, and hands-on Horizon/vSphere plus thin-client management

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• 8+ years of systems engineering or related experience.
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification is required.
• Hands-on experience with Omnissa Horizon hosted on VMware vSphere.
• Experience managing thin-client environments (Dell Wyse or similar).
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Knowledge of Group Policy (GPO) management within VDI environments.
• Familiarity with DISA STIG compliance requirements.
• Experience with VDI monitoring and performance management tools.

Responsibilities

• Build, update, test, and deploy VDI master images and desktop pools.
• Manage thin-client devices and endpoint configurations.
• Support profile management solutions for a seamless end-user experience.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts to improve efficiency.
• Conduct pre-production testing and validation of VDI image updates and patches; monitor performance.
• Ensure VDI environments comply with DoD security requirements including DISA STIGs.
• Collaborate with systems, network, cybersecurity and customer teams to support mission objectives.

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer (VDI) in Newington, VA to support a mission-critical Department of Defense customer. This position will serve as a senior engineer responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and security of a large-scale Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on expertise with Omnissa Horizon (VMware Horizon), VMware vSphere, endpoint management, automation, and secure enterprise desktop solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, update, test, and deploy VDI master images and desktop pools
• Manage thin-client devices and endpoint configurations using enterprise management platforms
• Support profile management solutions to provide a seamless and reliable end-user experience
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts to improve operational efficiency
• Perform pre-production testing and validation of VDI image updates, patches, configuration changes, and monitor VDI performance
• Ensure VDI environments comply with DoD security requirements, including DISA STIG implementation
• Collaborate with systems, network, cybersecurity, and customer teams to support mission objectives

Required Qualifications

Work Location

• On-site in Newington, VA
• Less than 10% travel required

Compensations

Salary Range: Up to $175,000 depending on experience
