Job summary

Qualifications

  • Active Public Trust required or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.
  • Experience supporting federal government customers, regulated environments, or mission-critical systems.
  • 6+ years experience with Windows Server and/or Linux environments, virtualization platforms, enterprise monitoring, backup/recovery, patching, and configuration management.
  • 6+ years experience in systems engineering, systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or related enterprise IT experience.

  • Provide systems engineering support for enterprise IT systems including requirements analysis, architecture support, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate corrective actions to maintain availability, reliability, and security.
  • Perform domain administration tasks for AD, DNS, GPOs, and MS SQL databases.
  • Manage ESXi hosts, Linux servers, Windows servers, and VM administration.
  • Handle backup, recovery, and maintenance of ACAM and VMS servers.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to support an immediate opening with a federal customer in Washington, DC. The Systems Engineer will help design, deploy, maintain, and improve mission-critical enterprise systems in a secure environment. This role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, clear communication, and the ability to work closely with government stakeholders, program leadership, security teams, and operations personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Provide systems engineering support for enterprise IT systems, including requirements analysis, architecture support, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate corrective actions to maintain availability, reliability, and security.
  • Perform domain administrative tasks associated with Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Domain Names Services (DNS), Group Policy Objects (GPO’s), and Microsoft SQL Databases.
  • Manage ESXi Hosts, Linux servers, Windows Servers, and Virtual Machines Administration.
  • Responsible for backup, recovery functions, and the following, but not limited to: overall system functionality, programming, trouble shooting, repair, rebuild databases, and maintenance of all ACAM and VMS servers.
  • Analyze system operations and the results of system tests, to ensure proper system operation and determine the need for maintenance.
  • Perform hardware and software system patches, upgrades, service packs, and hot fixes to ensure system availability, reliability, and service ability.
  • Ensure that system malfunctions are identified and, where possible, corrected.
  • Advise the Project Manager of all malfunctions and the actions taken for correction.
  • Initiate authorized tests of the operation of the hyper-converged servers that support the video management system, security system, and designated components and subsystems to ensure proper operation or to identify the need for maintenance to include updating and installing peripheral licensing and software upgrades for all VMS applications.
  • Respond to trouble tickets from the Service Desk automated trouble ticketing system.
  • Advise the Project Manager of abnormalities and shortcomings of existing systems that may significantly affect the design of next generation systems, or result in the identification of better methodology or operational techniques.
  • Development and implementation of a robust preventative maintenance program.
  • Ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Systems Engineering area of responsibility. Communicates with other program personnel and government overseers.
Qualifications
  • Active Public Trust Bachelors Degree or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience supporting federal government customers, regulated environments, or mission-critical systems.
  • Six years experience with Windows Server and/or Linux environments, virtualization platforms, enterprise monitoring, backup/recovery, patching, and configuration management.
  • Six (6) years experience in systems engineering, systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or related enterprise IT experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of System Engineering – Design PrinciplesKnowledge of and experience with Server automation and monitoring toolsExperience with ACAM and VMS serversExperienced with network technology/topologyCapable of troubleshooting network connectivity issues such as network interface (NIC), cabling, TCP/IP configuration issues and basic messaging system administration (e-mail);MS CertificationSQL Experience Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
