Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking a Systems Engineer to partner with the IT Infrastructure Manager on day-to-day operations of the company’s technology stack. The role requires after-hours availability for maintenance, upgrades, and incident response, including system outages and critical updates.

The successful candidate will manage Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, and layer 2/3 networking, with VMware, VDI, and security responsibilities across on-site infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, preferably computer science or related field.
• 5 years of relevant work experience.
• 5+ years deploying and maintaining Windows Server, SQL Server.
• 5+ years in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and group policy.
• Understanding of routing and switching, including high availability and redundancy features.

Responsibilities

• Ensure functionality of all IT hybrid infrastructure components.
• Maintain VMware 8.0 Enterprise and related components.
• Manage Dell servers, storage, and switches; basic routing & switching.
• Oversee Palo Alto firewalls, Velocloud SD-WAN.
• Certificate management for internet-facing websites, servers and appliances.
• Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Administer Microsoft 365 and Intune; Mimecast email.
• Maintain VDI environment (Omnissa Horizon) including deployment.
• Encrypt files, disks, email, and devices per HIPAA requirements.
• Endpoint security administration and patch management.
• Connect to primary data center and co-location for BCD/DR/IR.
• Escalation point for IT Help Desk issues.

SUMMARY

The Systems Engineer, working alongside the Manager of IT Infrastructure, is responsible for day-to-day functions of all components for the company’s infrastructure. After-hours and weekend work is expected, as it will occasionally be required to fulfill job tasks including scheduled maintenance and upgrades, project deadlines, and unexpected events such as system outages and critical updates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Critical features of this position are listed below and may be revised, updated or reassigned at management’s discretion in accordance with business needs or other factors.

• Ensure functionality of all IT hybrid infrastructure components, including:

• VMware 8.0 Enterprise and associated components
• Dell Servers, Storage
• Dell Switches. Routing & switching basics preferred, but not required.
• Palo Alto firewalls, Velocloud SD-WAN
• Certificate management for internet-facing websites, servers and appliances
• Active Directory DHCP, DNS, Group Policy
• Microsoft 365 and Intune
• Email appliance (Mimecast)
• VDI (Omnissa Horizon) environment maintenance, including configuration and deployment
• Encryption of files, disks, email, and devices to preserve company and patient information, in compliance of HIPAA regulations
• Endpoint security administration and patch management, software & OS deployment, inventory management

• Ensure connectivity to company’s primary data center and co-location for Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery / Incident Response
• Escalation point for IT Help Desk technical issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, preferably computer science or related field
• 5 years of relevant work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of expertise in:
  • Deploying and maintaining Microsoft Windows Server, SQL server
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and group policy
  • Understanding of routing and switching, including high availability and redundancy features
