Job description

We are seeking aSystems Engineerto join an agile, multi-team engineering initiative supporting mission-critical satellite ground systems. In this role, you will serve as a vital technical bridge between mission operations, system stakeholders, and software development pods.

Working embedded within an agile scrum team, you will translate high-level operational concepts and customer requirements into detailed digital engineering artifacts, interface specifications, and verifiable user stories. You will own the technical definition of ground segment functions from initial concept through automated verification, integration, and operational sell-off.

What You'll be Owning
  • Translate mission needs, operational concepts, and customer interfaces into actionable digital engineering artifacts—including use cases, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), sequence diagrams, data schemas, and functional requirements.
  • Develop and maintain structural and behavioral architecture models using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies (SysML) to drive downstream software design and maintain traceability.
  • Partner embedded within an agile development team to refine the backlog, clarify system behavior, define acceptance criteria, and ensure implemented software features faithfully align with mission objectives.
  • Define and review software-facing interface protocols, data structures, and messaging schemas (such as REST, HTTP, JSON/Protobuf, or publish/subscribe models) to support ground-to-space and ground-to-ground communication.
  • Formulate verification matrices, author test plans and procedures, and collaborate with software testers to validate system capabilities against requirements using automated test frameworks.
  • Participate in technical exchange meetings (TEMs), working groups, and interface control boards. Support milestone reviews, technical demonstrations, and customer briefings with data-backed artifacts.
What You Must Have
  • Active or currentTop-Secret clearance with SCI access and polygraph(TS/SCI with poly).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline) with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience (or Master’s degree with 3+ years).
  • Practical experience in satellite ground systems, Command and Control (C2), and mission management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience building or evaluating behavioral and structural models usingMBSEmethodologies andSysMLtools
  • Proven ability to author technical specifications for software developers, including sequence diagrams, message schemas, data flows, and ICDs involving modern network/web protocols (REST, HTTP, event queues).
  • Hands‑on experience working in an agile software development environment utilizing theAtlassian suite (Jira, Confluence)for backlog refinement, tracing, and sprint execution.
  • Experience drafting verification requirements, mapping test criteria, and supporting integration, functional checkout, and formal requirements sell-off.
What Would be Nice to Have
  • Exposure to cloud-native and microservice architectures (containerized services,Docker,Kubernetes).
  • Experience with automated test and integration frameworks (e.g., Playwright, PyTest, or automated API test runners).
  • Familiarity with mission-thread execution and end-to-end ground data flow verification.
  • Experience collaborating across geographically dispersed cross-functional teams.
