Job summary

STACK INFRASTRUCTURE is seeking a Systems Engineer to deploy, monitor, upgrade and support our operational technology and corporate infrastructure. This hands-on role requires strong technical skills, leadership, and clear communication to ensure high availability and security across compute, storage, and cloud platforms.

• 5-7 years' experience as a systems engineer in data center environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain compute, storage, cloud, and OT infrastructure.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize for high availability.
• Provide advanced technical support and troubleshoot escalated issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and document configurations and procedures.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.

THE POSITION:

At STACK, the Systems Engineer will deploy, monitor, upgrade and support the operational technology services & corporate infrastructure. The position requires expertise in operating highly available, secure, and scalable infrastructure. The position works under minimal direction with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This is a “hands-on” position requiring strong technical skills, as well as excellent informal leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design, implement, and maintain the organization’s compute, storage, cloud and operational technology infrastructure.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks or issues, and proactively implement solutions to optimize performance and ensure high availability.
• Implement and manage monitoring tools to oversee system performance, identify issues, and implement necessary measures to optimize system performance and reliability.
• Conduct regular system backups, audits, and testing to ensure business continuity.
• Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for escalated infrastructure issues.
• Investigate and resolve complex problems, collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors as needed.
• Perform root cause analysis of incidents and develop preventive measures to minimize future occurrences.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practices, applying them to enhance performance, reliability & security.
• Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Prepare regular reports on infrastructure performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics.
• On-call availability may be required to respond to emergency situations

THE DETAILS:

• Location: Northern Virginia
• Travel: Domestic travel required up to 15%
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
• Must pass a comprehensive background screening

MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or equivalent industry experience.
• 5-7 years’ experience as a system engineer in an enterprise or data center setting
• Experience with on-premises hosting platforms (vSphere/Hyper‑V), storage (NetApp) and backup.
• Proficiency with code, and the ability to do scripting or coding in at least one popular language (Bash, python, Ruby, etc).
• Data center experience a plus
