Job summary

Neighborhood House is seeking a Systems Engineer to support and maintain our IT infrastructure, resolve IT challenges, and drive automation. You will deploy servers, manage colocation hardware, and lead IT projects to completion.

The role requires 40 hours/week, on‑site presence 2–3 days weekly, and flexibility for after‑hours support. Strong Windows, AD, Azure, and scripting skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, IT or related field or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of Windows server administration experience.
  • Experience with hyper‑converged infrastructure and AD/AAD/Intune.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell and Office 365 administration.
  • Understanding of hosting environments, IIS/Apache, and RADIUS.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Self‑directed with minimal supervision and problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and travel to sites as needed.
  • Willingness for evenings/weekends and on‑call rotation.

  • Maintain server infrastructure, domain controllers, DNS, and backups.
  • Manage hyper‑converged Windows VMs, backups, patching, and monitoring.
  • Administer Azure services—Intune, CA policies, Exchange Online, Endpoint Manager.
  • Monitor security, licenses, and system performance; document processes.
  • Collaborate on high‑level IT projects with the Director of Technology.
  • Provide after‑hours/on‑call support and site visits when required.

Job Summary

The Systems Engineer reports to the Director of Technology and plays a critical role in helping the agency support and maintain our existing infrastructure, problem‑solve IT challenges, and drive automation and efficiencies. A successful candidate will perform server deployments, maintain colocation server hardware, support staff to resolve technical issues, and manage high‑level IT projects through completion.

Responsibilities
Server Responsibilities (40%)
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, and print services.
  • Maintain hyper‑converged Windows virtual machines, including backups, patching, updates, and performance monitoring in Secure and Azure environments.
  • Maintain critical infrastructure services: Domain Controller, DNS, file server, and backups.
  • Maintain software and hardware licenses.
  • Manage Azure services – Intune, Conditional Access Policies, Exchange Online, and Endpoint Manager.
  • Administer Windows Servers, virtualization, and storage systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Identify and troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues, delivering efficient solutions.
  • Manage Active Directory infrastructure, enhancing user management and security protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain system security and antivirus software.
  • Execute routine backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Support off‑site datacenter operations.
  • Conduct hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and configurations.
  • Configure and administer system monitoring, alerting, and logging systems.
  • Monitor system performance metrics and plan future capacity needs.
  • Create and maintain system documentation for domain technologies.
  • Maintain documentation of all servers, systems, processes, and solutions.
Network & Security Responsibilities (40%)
  • Implement security best practices to protect agency data.
  • Conduct regular security audits and address findings.
  • Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments, and contingency plans.
  • Use scripting languages to automate and integrate systems, applications, and routine tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Technology on high‑level projects.
  • Provide support to the Director and Admin Staff.
  • Assist with IT strategy recommendations.
  • Support other System Administrator(s), Help Desk Technicians, and the Director with projects, tickets, and solutions.
  • Provide after‑hours and on‑call support as part of a rotation.
  • Provide support to database projects and DBA needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
  • 3–5 years of systems administration in a Windows environment (Windows Server 2016/2022, Windows 10/11).
  • Experience with hyper‑converged infrastructures, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Group Policies, Office 365, SQL Server, PowerShell, RDS.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting (PowerShell).
  • Understanding of hosting environments, IIS, Apache, and RADIUS.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Self‑reliant, self‑directed, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to lift, move, and install equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Reliable transportation for frequent site visits; ability to work 2–3 on‑site days per week.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in a culturally diverse workplace.

Required Credentials
  • Pass Neighborhood House’s background check requirements.
  • Washington State bi‑annual criminal background re‑check.
  • Current Health Exam, Tuberculosis Screening, and records of MMR vaccination or immunity.
  • Department of Early Learning Portable Background Check.
Post‑Hire On‑the‑Job Training Requirements
  • Current First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire, maintain during employment).
  • Current CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire, maintain during employment).
  • Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training within 2 weeks of hire.
