Job description

Mach builds production-ready autonomy for the world's toughest off-road environments. We help equipment manufacturers bring autonomous and semi-autonomous machines to market across agriculture, construction, mining, defense, and other industries. Our technology combines perception, navigation, planning, controls, connectivity, and operator tools to help heavy equipment work safely and consistently in the real world.

Position

Mach is looking for a Systems Engineer to turn autonomy capabilities into practical machine solutions, with a focus on construction equipment and jobsite applications. This is a hands-on systems role connecting sensing, software, machine interfaces, and field performance.

You will work across engineering disciplines to understand how a machine needs to operate, integrate the components that make it possible, and verify that the complete system performs as intended. Perception is a central part of the work, but success means more than improving a model: it means making the machine work reliably in its operating environment.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Translate construction workflows and machine needs into clear system requirements, interfaces, operating assumptions, and test criteria.
  • Integrate cameras, radar, LiDAR, positioning, and machine data as appropriate to the application, working with perception, controls, and software engineers.
  • Evaluate sensor placement, calibration, coverage, and failure modes under changing terrain, visibility, dust, and jobsite conditions.
  • Bring up and troubleshoot complete systems on machines, tracing issues across sensors, software, communications, and vehicle interfaces.
  • Plan and execute bench and field tests, collect useful data, and turn results into documented engineering improvements.
  • Document configurations, integration decisions, test results, and known limitations so solutions can be repeated and supported.
Ideal Experience

The ideal candidate brings experience in several of the following areas:

  • Systems integration for robotics, autonomous vehicles, construction equipment, or other complex electromechanical products.
  • Applying perception and positioning systems to real equipment, including sensor calibration, data quality, and environmental limitations.
  • Developing requirements and verification plans that connect customer needs to measurable machine behavior.
  • Working alongside software, electrical, and mechanical teams to resolve problems that span disciplines.
Requirements for Success
  • Practical engineering judgment and a systematic approach to isolating problems, testing hypotheses, and validating fixes.
  • Ability to inspect logs and sensor data, use programming or scripting to support analysis, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Comfortable moving between technical requirements, hands-on integration, and field validation rather than working in only one discipline.
  • Ownership of work from problem definition through verification, with clear communication about progress, risks, and dependencies.
  • A safety-minded approach to testing heavy equipment and a willingness to learn the realities of construction operations.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with off-road machinery, drive-by-wire integration, CAN communications, or vehicle control systems.
  • Familiarity with C++, Python, robotics middleware, computer vision, or embedded and edge-computing platforms.
  • Experience with sensor fusion, localization, terrain understanding, or obstacle detection in outdoor environments.
Position Specifics
  • Job Type: Full-Time
  • Salary: $90,000 - $140,000 per year, dependent on experience and qualifications
  • Travel: Approximately 10%–30%, with occasional periods of travel up to 50% based on customer and project needs.
  • Generous vacation and PTO
  • 10+ paid holidays
  • 75% company-sponsored Health plan
  • Dental, Vision, and 401k available
  • Equity incentive package
Other Requirements
  • 5+ years experience in robotics, autonomy or equivalent hands-on experience in related field
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card Holder)
  • Ability to pass a background check
