Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Systems Deployment Engineer to bridge Linux-based OT infrastructure with field operations for utility-scale energy projects. You will deploy, configure, validate, and support Linux OT systems across BESS and renewable sites.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Controls Engineering, SCADA, Networking, and Commissioning teams to ensure builds are deployed, tested, and commissioned before site turnover, with emphasis on automation via Ansible, Bash, and Python.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Systems Deployment, IT/OT Integration, Infrastructure Engineering, or a related role.
  • Strong Linux administration experience, including deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and system maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware and virtualized environments.
  • Proven experience deploying and managing infrastructure using Ansible.
  • Experience scripting with Bash and/or Python.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including IP networking, connectivity troubleshooting, firewalls, and VLAN concepts.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, or MQTT.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and validate Linux-based OT infrastructure, servers, and edge computing systems that support utility-scale renewable energy and BESS projects.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team to receive completed server builds and prepare them for deployment.
  • Configure and verify Linux operating systems, VMware environments, and system settings prior to deployment.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute Ansible playbooks to automate infrastructure deployments and reduce manual configuration efforts.
  • Utilize Bash and Python scripting to streamline deployment processes, system administration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Coordinate with Controls, SCADA, Networking, and Commissioning teams to ensure systems are properly integrated and ready for site operations.
  • Support deployment and commissioning activities by validating communication between batteries, transformers, inverters, controls systems, and OT infrastructure.
  • Perform system testing and configuration validation prior to turnover to commissioning and operations teams.
  • Troubleshoot Linux systems, deployment issues, virtualization platforms, and infrastructure-related challenges.
  • Assist with basic networking configuration and troubleshooting, including IP addressing, connectivity issues, and communication verification.
  • Monitor system resources, hardware health, and overall infrastructure performance.
  • Maintain deployment documentation, configuration records, and project-related updates.
  • Support multiple active projects through manufacturing, deployment, testing, and commissioning phases.

The Systems Deployment Engineer serves as the bridge between software, operational technology (OT), and field operations. This individual is responsible for deploying, configuring, validating, and supporting Linux-based OT infrastructure that powers utility-scale battery energy storage and renewable energy sites. This role is heavily focused on Linux administration, automation, infrastructure deployment, and OT systems support, with a strong preference for candidates coming from the energy, utility, renewable energy, industrial automation, or critical infrastructure sectors.

You will work closely with Manufacturing, Controls Engineering, SCADA, Networking, and Commissioning teams to ensure systems are properly built, configured, deployed, tested, and commissioned before sites become operational.

Day to Day:

Must Haves:

  • Previous experience supporting commissioning and startup of utility-scale energy facilities.
