This opportunity resides with Uncrewed Systems (UxS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Uncrewed Systems comprises unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomy software.
HII creates advanced unmanned solutions for defense, marine research and commercial applications. Serving customers in more than 30 countries, HII provides design, autonomy, manufacturing, testing, operations and sustainment of unmanned systems, including underwater and surface vessels.
HII Unmanned Systems is seeking a Perception Architect to join our Maritime Autonomy/AI Team. This role involves architecting, developing, integrating, and maintaining sensor perception capabilities deployed across HII’s range of maritime platforms. You will work with the team to continuously add capability and demonstrate the solution to customers in real‑world scenarios on HII REMUS and ROMULUS platforms. Sensors will span the spectrum of modalities, including EO, IR, acoustics, passive and active RF.
Designs and develops system architectures, and defines key capabilities and performance requirements. Defines total systems design and technology maturity constraints in accordance with mission requirements. Develops system element architecture and design and interface definitions. Defines system implementation approach and operational concept. Develops models and architectural guidelines for current and future system development.
May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
