Job description

A mid-level systems professional with solid experience managing Windows Server environments, virtualization platforms, and enterprise storage. Comfortable working independently on day-to-day server administration while also taking ownership of larger initiatives like DR infrastructure, patching programs, and acquisition integrations. Works closely with the security team on hardening and compliance rather than waiting for direction. The right person keeps infrastructure running reliably, documents what they build, and approaches backup and recovery with the mindset that a restore they have never tested is a restore they cannot count on.

Who We Are

Construction Partners, Inc. is one of the fastest-growing civil infrastructure companies in the United States, specializing in the construction and maintenance of roadways across five southeastern states. CPI has a proven track record of successfully buying and integrating companies and is considered a "buyer of choice" among owners seeking to sell. Our senior management team has successfully acquired and integrated approximately 60 companies over the course of their decades-long careers. Every acquisition adds servers, applications, storage, and infrastructure that needs to be assessed, standardized, and brought into the fold.

Job Duties
  • Administer and maintain the enterprise Windows Server environment across physical and virtual infrastructure: configure, monitor, and troubleshoot servers to ensure availability and performance across all CPI locations.
  • Manage server roles and services including domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, file services, print services, and remote desktop services; ensure configurations are consistent and documented.
  • Maintain file and folder permissions across server-based and cloud file systems; conduct periodic access reviews and remediate excess or stale permissions.
  • Administer enterprise application installations and configurations on server infrastructure; coordinate with application owners to ensure platforms are properly deployed, patched, and maintained.
  • Manage permissions and access controls across cloud-based and on-premise file storage platforms; conduct periodic access reviews and ensure storage configurations align with organizational standards.
  • Administer the enterprise virtualization platform: provision, configure, and maintain virtual machines; manage host resources, clustering, and capacity planning.
  • Manage enterprise storage infrastructure including SAN, NAS, and cloud storage platforms; monitor capacity, performance, and health; plan and execute storage expansions and migrations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all physical servers, virtual machines, and storage assets; ensure documentation reflects current state.
  • Manage the enterprise server patching program: maintain a consistent monthly patching cadence, track compliance across all servers, and report patching status to leadership.
  • Collaborate with the security team to define, implement, and validate server hardening baselines aligned to applicable security frameworks and compliance requirements (including CMMC where relevant); own implementation on the server side.
  • Assist with gathering and organizing server and system data for audit and compliance purposes; ensure documentation is accurate and readily available.
  • Own enterprise backup operations: configure, monitor, and maintain backup jobs across server and application infrastructure; ensure all critical systems are covered and backup jobs are completing successfully.
  • Conduct periodic restore tests across servers, applications, and file systems; document results and remediate any gaps in recoverability.
  • Own the disaster recovery infrastructure for server systems: maintain replication, manage the DR environment, and ensure failover capability is validated and current.
  • Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery plans for server and application systems; coordinate DR exercises with relevant teams and document outcomes.
  • Assess server infrastructure at acquired companies: inventory existing servers, applications, storage, and services; document findings and develop a standardization plan.
  • Lead server-side integration of acquired company infrastructure into CPI standards: migrate workloads, decommission redundant systems, and ensure acquired environments meet baseline configuration and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with the network and security teams on infrastructure projects, hardening initiatives, and cross-functional troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to the annual infrastructure roadmap; identify aging systems, capacity constraints, and technology gaps; make recommendations for remediation.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all server systems, configurations, and processes; keep runbooks and architecture documentation current.
  • Willingness to travel to branch and acquisition sites when necessary (multi-state).
Minimum Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Windows Server administration or systems engineering role.
  • Hands-on experience managing a Windows Server environment including domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, file services, and Group Policy.
  • Working experience with an enterprise virtualization platform at more than a basic level: provisioning, resource management, and host administration.
  • Experience with enterprise backup platforms: configuring jobs, monitoring completion, and performing and validating restores.
  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms including SAN or NAS; comfortable managing capacity, performance, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with server hardening concepts and common security and compliance frameworks applicable to Windows Server environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms in a hybrid capacity; able to manage workloads and storage across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills; able to work through complex infrastructure issues methodically.
  • Good documentation habits; produces runbooks, configuration records, and architecture notes that others can work from.
  • Comfortable working independently on multi-week projects while keeping stakeholders informed on progress.
Preferred Experience
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), VMware VCP-DCV, or equivalent.
  • Experience with VMware, Nutanix, or other virtualization platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft Hyper‑V in an enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with Linux server administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent); comfortable with basic administration, troubleshooting, and patching in a primarily Windows environment.
  • Experience with enterprise backup platforms such as Rubrik, Veeam, Commvault, or equivalent; familiarity with cloud-integrated backup and recovery.
  • Experience with SAN and NAS platforms such as Pure Storage, NetApp, Dell EMC, or equivalent; exposure to storage replication and snapshot management.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration including Exchange Online, Azure AD, and enterprise cloud file storage and collaboration platforms.
  • Experience with SQL Server administration including database maintenance, backups, and basic performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Azure or equivalent cloud platforms in a hybrid infrastructure context: virtual machines, blob storage, Azure Files, and site recovery.
  • Exposure to DR platforms and replication tools such as Azure Site Recovery, Zerto, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting server infrastructure in a multi-site or distributed environment.
  • Experience assessing or integrating infrastructure during a merger or acquisition.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
