Job summary

City of Columbus is seeking a Systems Administrator in the Division of Water Reclamation to install and maintain the SCADA system hardware and software at Water Reclamation plants. The role includes supporting UPS equipment during refresh cycles, supporting IT projects citywide, and keeping current on systems administration practices.

This position is on-site with no remote work. Qualifications include a BS in CS/IT/cybersecurity and relevant certifications; extensive Windows Server experience;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field with professional certifications.
• Certifications listed include CCNA, Network+, Windows Server Admin, AZ-800/801, Server+ or Dell PowerEdge.
• Supports SCADA network users and desktops for management and operators.
• Installs and maintains hardware/software, and adapts features to client needs.
• Ensures Windows OS health, backups, security logs, and system documentation.

Job description

In the Division of Water Reclamation, under direction, the Systems Administrator will install and maintain the Water Reclamation plants SCADA system hardware and software.

This position is responsible for recycling old UPS chassis and batteries when the hardware refresh happens; participates in Citywide information technology projects; participates in professional activities to remain knowledgeable regarding developments in the field of systems administration; performs related duties as required.

This is primarily performed on premises at the facilities.

Preferred experience and training

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity or closely related field.
• Valid certification in Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+ Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator Associate AZ 802 Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800/801), CompTIA Server+, Dell PowerEdge Operate Certification.
• User support for management and operators using the desktop/HMI’s on the SCADA network.
• Installs new hardware and software packages.
• Modifies and adapts software features and structures to meet the needs of the clients.
• Maintains day-to-day operation of the Windows OS for desktops and servers including but not limited to upgrades, systems backups and recovery, user accounts, security logs, creating/using batch files, and systems health status.
• Analyzes and resolves problems associated with desktop and server hardware and operating systems software.
• Detects, diagnoses, reports, and/or corrects system/server problems.
• Communicates with programmers and other IT staff to resolve these issues; monitors, analyzes, and resolves security issues regarding the computer system and the network and evaluates and installs security patches & antivirus program.
• Remains current on operating system vulnerabilities.
• Writes and or adds to current system documentation, program specifications, production procedures, and other documentation that may include user manuals and instructions.
• Maintains accurate documentation and administrative information of the operating systems.
• Install, support, and maintain UPSes for core servers.

Possession of a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in computer or information systems maintenance, systems administration, or systems analysis. Substitution(s): Possession of an associate's degree and an additional two (2) years of experience as listed above, or valid certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Windows Server, Hewlett-Packard Unix Certified Systems Administrator (HP-UX CSA) or comparable certification and an additional two (2) years of experience as listed above, or an additional four (4) years of experience as listed above may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
