A leading research university in Tallahassee is seeking a Systems Administrator to support Google Workspace and Azure platforms. The successful candidate will manage cloud services, ensuring collaboration and security, with emphasis on operational reliability and automation using PowerShell. This position is within FSU’s Department of Information Technology Services (ITS).
The Collaboration Services and Identity Management team within Information Technology Services administers a significant body of critical core infrastructure and core services at Florida State University relating to collaboration amongst the Faculty, Staff, and Students. The team is primarily responsible for the Google Workspace & Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft related technologies including the University Azure/Microsoft 365 tenant, Zoom Workplace Platform, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Duo, NIST 800-181 environment, DR environment, Proofpoint, and Oracle Identity Management platform.
This position is responsible for the development and engineering of solutions under the purview of the Collaborative Services Team. It includes providing support for collaborative suites, notably Azure, Office 365, Google Workspace, and Zoom. This position is deeply involved in design and planning, troubleshooting, research and development, project management, and testing assurance of Collaborative solutions. This position focuses on the administrative and transformation processes of enterprise cloud service like but not limited to Google Workspace, Microsoft, Zoom and enterprise artificial intelligence platforms. This position is responsible for designing, deploying, administering, and supporting Google Workspace services and related collaborative solutions across FSU. This Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless collaboration, productivity, and security by managing core applications, third-party tools, and internal systems. This role also acts as a subject matter expert for Google Workspace initiatives, providing support and guidance for both technical and non-technical users. This position will provide important insight to modernize the way FSU communicates across campus and beyond with robust and modern cloud-based solutions.
Engineer solutions to meet complex business needs utilizing Azure, Zoom, Google, and other collaborative services. Responsible for ensuring operational reliability, maintenance, budgeting, and effective security.
Administer, improve operations efficiencies, and architect collaboration platforms solutions, including full lifecycle management, best practices, group management, security configurations, migration strategies, and automated scripting (PowerShell, Python, and API management). Heavy focus on Google Platform API integration and automated script.
Offers expert guidance and advice to Information Technology Services (ITS) personnel and the Florida State University (FSU) community on complex business problems. Participates in addressing and resolving queries submitted to the Help Desk.
Collects and analyzes usage and performance data; diagnoses problems and takes appropriate action anytime, day or night. Conduct quality assurance checks to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of systems. Lead Google platform development with FSU SSO and IGA solutions.
Perform duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards. Interact with the FSU ISPO office regarding the Google Platform.
Shares responsibilities for providing support 24/7. Other duties as necessary.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
Experience with Google Workspace & Google Cloud Platform
Experience with the Azure/M365 Platform
Experience with Zoom Workplace Platform
Knowledge of Security Practices
PowerShell Scripting experience
Who is an ideal candidate for this position?
The ideal candidate for this position should be someone with technical experience with a Google Workspace environment and an Azure/Microsoft 365 & Active Directory based environment. The candidate should be familiar with Google Workspace & Google Cloud (Identity Management, Security, & Google apps administration), Microsoft related technologies (including Exchange, SharePoint, & Entra Connect), and Zoom Workplace administration (Meetings, Webinars, Identity Management, and Zoom Phone). The candidate should also be familiar with contemporary cloud offerings (IaaS, PaaS, & SaaS) such as the various offerings from Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud. Scripting with PowerShell and Google GAM is crucial for the ideal candidate. Exceptional communication skills and a hard work ethic are also essential qualities we are seeking for this position.
What can I expect in the first 60-90 days?
During the first 60-90 days the candidate selected for this position will learn as much as they can about the FSU environment (specifically Google Workspace and Azure/M365) within Information Technology Services, will learn about daily operations on the team, and will learn about specific business practices of the team, ITS, and FSU.
