Job summary

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC seeks a Systems Administrator Linux Range Network to support PMRF networks in Kekaha, Hawai'i. You will manage RHEL, apply security controls, patching, and automation, collaborating with cyber teams to ensure mission readiness.

Qualifications

  • A.S. Degree required; HS Diploma with four years of related system administration experience may substitute for an A.S. degree.
  • One year of System Administration/IT experience.
  • Advanced certifications or education may substitute for degree or experience.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and advanced IT infrastructure concepts.
  • Proficient in operating personal computers and standard office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux (RHEL) in classified and unclassified Navy networks.
  • Implement and maintain RMF security controls; ensure DISA STIG and DoD cybersecurity policy compliance.
  • Apply and manage patches across all Linux systems per DoD and Navy policies.
  • Manage automated installation methods and system imaging (SCCM, VMware, Nutanix, Satellite, Ansible).
  • Perform system hardening and vulnerability remediation using ACAS, ESS, and SCAP.
  • Develop PowerShell scripts for automation of admin tasks.
  • Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams for ATO packages, POA&Ms, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain system documentation, baselines, and SOPs.
  • Participate in CCBs/CMBs and change control processes.
  • Assist with incident response, forensics, and recovery efforts.
  • Support backup/disaster recovery using Veeam, Commvault.
  • Evaluate new DoD-approved Linux tools.

Job description

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is looking for a Systems Administrator Linux Range Network. The position will be in support of our government customer in Kekaha, Hawai'i.

Provides Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration for all Clients and Servers connected to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) classified and unclassified networks. Deploys Cyber Security mandated system upgrades, system patches, and system security lockdown requirements. Performs system wide troubleshooting and problem resolution in a live mission environment.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux (RHEL) and other Linux-based environments in classified and unclassified environments across Navy networks.
  • Implement and maintain RMF security controls and ensure systems are compliant with DISA STIGs and DoW cybersecurity policies.
  • Apply and manage patches and updates across all Linux systems in accordance with DoW and Navy patch management policies.
  • Manage automated installation methods and system imaging (e.g., SCCM, VMware, Nutanix, Satellite, Ansible)
  • Perform system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation using tools such as ACAS, ESS, and SCAP.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation of administrative tasks and system configuration.
  • Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and manage virtual infrastructure lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to support ATO packages, POA&Ms, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain system documentation, configuration baselines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in Change Control Boards (CCBs) and Configuration Management Boards (CMBs).
  • Assist with incident response, forensic analysis, and system recovery efforts.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery strategies using enterprise tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
  • Evaluate and recommend new Linux technologies and DoW-approved tools.
  • General office environment with site visits as well as periodic "at sea" duty to support the PMRF's Mobile at Sea Sensor system (MATSS)
  • Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment and participate in technical and system administrative activities throughout project life cycles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Office conditions are varied and include physical tasks including lifting, pushing or pulling over 50 pounds (with a 2-person assist). Physical positions will include but not be limited to walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, and crawling, kneeling or cramped work, requiring repeated stooping and stair climbing. The office laboratory environment will include customer contact, extended workdays, in a confined work area, field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • A.S. Degree
  • High School Diploma with four (4) years of directly related system administration experience may be substituted for an A.S. degree.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • One (1) year of System Administration/IT experience
  • Advance certifications or education may be substituted for a degree or experience
  • Years of directly related work experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Knowledge of IT systems and advance IT infrastructure concepts
  • Must be proficient in operating personal computers, computer software and standard office equipment
  • Must have basic keyboarding skills and aptitude for neatness and accuracy in sorting
  • Critical thinking - Proven problem solver
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Advance knowledge and certification in both Windows Server and RHEL
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • VMware/Nutanix certification
  • Knowledge/Administration of Trellix, LogRhythm, and MDE
  • Experience with DoW systems and infrastructure
  • Knowledge in Cyber Security Methods and Techniques
  • Knowledge of DoW IT systems, to include Windows, RHEL, and comprehensive infrastructure concepts
REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Top Secret security clearance is required with T5 or equivalent (SSBI) investigation level. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
COMPENSATION DETAILS:
  • $90,000.00 - $105,000.00
  • The compensation range or hourly rate provided is a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, market conditions, and applicable laws.
