Job summary

Cayuse Holdings is seeking a Systems Administrator, Journeyman to support Linux and Windows environments at Fort Meade. You will install, configure, and maintain servers and workstations, develop automation scripts, and ensure security and DoD 8140 compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, strong documentation, and the ability to work onsite in a dynamic defense-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, or related discipline plus 4+ years of relevant experience.
• IAT Level II Certification (e.g., Security+) preferred.
• Experience with Windows Server and Linux administration, VMware, and MySQL.
• Top-Secret Clearance (or ability to obtain) and background check.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to create clear technical docs.

Responsibilities

• Install and configure enterprise software, hardware, and OS (Linux, RedHat, Windows).
• Manage MySQL databases, Windows Servers, and Windows 10/11 workstations.
• Develop scripts for automation and optimization.
• Perform routine maintenance, patches, upgrades, and backups.
• Monitor performance and troubleshoot outages, bottlenecks, and compatibility issues.
• Ensure DoD 8140 Cyberspace Workforce compliance and security controls.
• Set up user accounts and provide tiered troubleshooting.

Overview

The Work

The Systems Administrator, Journeyman will assist in local and remote Linux and Windows systems administration, front-end and back-end application support, technical analysis, and problem-solving in a highly collaborative environment. This position will play a critical role in defining and optimizing system processes, ensuring system security, and maintaining system readiness in alignment of our clients standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• System Installation and Configuration:
  • Install and configure enterprise software, hardware, and operating systems (Linux, RedHat, and Windows).
  • Manage and maintain MySQL databases, Windows Servers, and Windows 10/11 workstations.
  • Develop and implement scripts for system automation and optimization.
• System Operations and Maintenance:
  • Conduct routine system maintenance, including security patches and system upgrades.
  • Perform log reviews, system backups, and hardware diagnostics to ensure robust system functionality.
  • Monitor servers, systems, and applications for performance, addressing issues proactively.
  • Investigate and repair outages, performance bottlenecks, and compatibility issues.
• Security and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with DoD 8140 Cyberspace Workforce Management regulations.
  • Maintain security standards, including access controls, firewalls, and backups to safeguard infrastructure and data.
• Administration and Troubleshooting:
  • Set up user accounts and workstations, enabling seamless access to IT resources.
  • Provide tiered troubleshooting and resolve technical and operational issues.
• Documentation and Collaboration:
  • Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation, providing clarity for operational procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with customers, management, and cross-functional teams to achieve mission objectives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline, and 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Additional years of experience may substitute for a degree.
• Certifications:
  • IAT Level II Certification (e.g., COMPTIA Security+).
• Proficiency with Windows Server 2016/2019 and Windows 10/11 installation and configuration.
• 4 years experience with RedHat / Linux / VMware / Windows server (installing, configuring, maintaining, and administering).
• Familiarity with MySQL Databases and Microsoft Active Directory is a plus.
• Experience in creating and managing technical documentation.
• Top-Secret Clearance is required.
• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Linux administration experience, including troubleshooting, performance analysis, and tuning.
• Knowledge of and experience with network devices, such as load balancers, routers, and switches.
• Experience in developing policies for Broadcom Layer7 or other API-based application gateways.
• Familiarity with handling cross-domain solutions.
• Proven expertise in securing and maintaining enterprise environments aligned with security best practices.

Working Conditions
