Peak Performers seeks an experienced Systems Administrator III – Endpoint & Infrastructure in Austin, TX. The role focuses on managing endpoint devices, improving infrastructure, and solving complex IT challenges in a state agency environment.

You will work within ISD, reporting to the CIO, providing Tier 1/2 support, network upkeep, and endpoint management for government staff. On-site, 6-month contract with potential extension or full-time conversion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in CS/MIS or related field + 2 years of experience.
• 4 years professional systems administration experience in IT dept.
• 6 years experience in gov/commercial org outside IT dept.

Responsibilities

• Oversee agency endpoint devices (desktops, laptops, phones) and deploy software.
• Install, configure, maintain, and administer computers, servers, and core apps.
• Analyze and resolve hardware, software, network issues and report status.
• Administer AD and Microsoft 365 access privileges to protect systems.
• Develop SOPs for system maintenance and support; document processes.
• Script routine tasks using PowerShell to improve efficiency.
• Participate in rotating after-hours/weekend on-call schedule.

We are partnering with a prominent State of Texas agency in Austin to recruit an experienced Systems Administrator III – Endpoint & Infrastructure. This role is ideal for a skilled IT professional proficient in managing endpoint devices, optimizing infrastructure systems, and solving complex technical challenges in a dynamic environment.

The Team You Will Be Joining

You will join the agency’s central Information Services Division (ISD), working alongside a collaborative team of IT professionals responsible for enterprise-wide technology operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, this team provides critical Tier 1/Tier 2 technical support, network infrastructure maintenance, and endpoint management to ensure seamless day-to-day operations for state government staff.

Major Duties

• Oversee agency endpoint devices (desktops, laptops, phones), including configuration management, imaging, software deployment, and vulnerability remediation.
• Install, configure, maintain, and administer computers, servers, operating systems, and core applications.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues (IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) while providing status reports to leadership.
• Administer Active Directory and Microsoft 365 access privileges to protect systems from unauthorized access.
• Develop, test, and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for system maintenance and technical support.
• Script routine administration tasks using PowerShell to improve workflow efficiency.
• Cross-train on critical agency systems and participate in a rotating after-hours/weekend on-call schedule.

What are we looking for?

• Education & Experience Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field plus 2 years of professional systems administration/support experience.
• Education & Experience Option 2: 4 years of professional systems administration/support experience directly within an IT department.
• Education & Experience Option 3: 6 years of professional systems administration/support experience within a government or commercial organization (outside an IT department).
• Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with Microsoft configuration management systems (SCCM/MECM/Intune), Active Directory, M365, Windows OS, and PowerShell scripting.
• Troubleshooting Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex hardware, software, network, and web conferencing (Teams, Zoom, Webex) issues.
• Licensure & Physical Requirements: Valid Driver’s License and ability to lift up to 30 lbs for equipment setup.

Exciting Opportunity Details

• Rate: $47.00 / hour
• Length of Engagement: 6 months (Contract, with high potenital extension or FTE)
• Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, Regular Business Hours (plus participation in a rotating after-hours/weekend on-call schedule)
• Location: Austin, TX (On-site / Office environment)
