Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator II – Desktop Support to join our MAJESTIC Joint Program Office team in Springfield, VA. On-site only, you will maintain mission-critical Windows and RHEL systems, and Nutanix platforms, ensuring performance, security, and reliability of a large enterprise IT environment.

You will handle patching, AD administration, scripting, and cross-team collaboration, applying RMF and DoD controls.

Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of professional IT enterprise support experience.
  • Certifications: CompTIA Cloud+ or Security+ or GIAC/GSEC/SSCP.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, CS, IT, or related field.
  • Proficient Windows Server administration and AD/DNS/group policy.
  • Strong RHEL knowledge and security hardening.
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • RMF/NIST DoD 8510.01 security compliance.

Responsibilities

Description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated and skilledSenior Systems Administrator II – Desktop Support to join our MAJESTIC Joint Program Office (JPO) Team in support of an on-premises enterprise IT environment. This individual will provide desktop maintenance of mission-critical systems and infrastructure, includingWindows Servers,Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Nutanix hyper-converged platform solutions. The successful candidate will serve as a member of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and security of a large-scale enterprise IT environment. The Systems Administrator II – Desktop Support will be responsible for desktop administration, patch management, system troubleshooting, and the implementation of new capabilities to meet operational and mission requirements. This role requires direct on-site support in theSpringfield, VAlocation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform day-to-day system administration tasks to ensure the availability, security, and performance of critical enterprise Windows Server and RHEL systems
  • Monitor system performance and maintain enterprise infrastructure for compliance with security and reliability requirements
  • Manage patching across Windows and Linux servers using tools like WSUS, Microsoft SCCM, and Ansible
  • Write and maintain scripting solutions (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, or Python) to automate repetitive administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency
  • Implement and administer Active Directory (AD), including group policies, user administration, and cross-platform integration with RHEL
  • Leverage monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk, SolarWinds, and Grafana to monitor health and resolve issues proactively
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper integration of Windows, Linux, and Nutanix environments into overall enterprise infrastructure
  • Analyze and troubleshoot system performance or configuration issues and implement long-term solutions to systemic challenges
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, including system diagrams, SOPs, and recovery procedures
  • Provide technical support for application teams leveraging Windows Servers, RHEL systems, and Nutanix, ensuring seamless operations
  • Assist with evaluating and implementing new infrastructure technologies, tools, and processes to drive continuous improvement

  • Candidates must satisfy Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (CWF)ID 451 (System Administrator – Intermediate Level)requirements, as outlined byNavy COOL This requirement can be met by possessing one or more of the following qualifying certifications
  • CompTIA Cloud+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
  • GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)

OR This requirement can be met through

  • ABachelor’s Degreein Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or a related field
Experience
  • 3-6 yearsof professional experience managing and supporting enterprise-levelIT environments
Technical Skills
  • Expertise in Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, and group policy management
  • Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including configuration, management, troubleshooting, and security hardening
  • Comprehensive understanding of enterprise virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and managing VMs in multi-hypervisor architectures
  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions, clustering, and high availability (HA) architectures
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools like PowerShell, Bash, or Python to streamline operations
  • Expertise in system performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Splunk, Nagios, SolarWinds, or Grafana) for diagnostics and proactive issue resolution
  • Hands‑on experience with network services (e.g., DHCP, TCP/IP, load balancing, and VLAN configurations)
  • Strong understanding of security and compliance standards, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and DoD 8510.01, for ensuring infrastructure meets operational requirements
