Responsibilities

• Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems and coordinates with network admins.
• Evaluates vendor products and makes hardware/software recommendations.
• Coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
• Develops policies and standards for computing resource allocation.
• Sets up administrator and service accounts; maintains system documentation.
• Tuning system performance and allocating mass storage space.
• Infrastructure Maintenance: manage VMware HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure for high availability.
• Linux Systems Operations: configure, monitor and troubleshoot RHEL servers; escalate complex issues.
• Virtualization Support: administer VMware vSphere and HPE SimpliVity platforms.
• Solaris Administration: administer Solaris OS including install, configuration and troubleshooting.

Chipton-Ross is seeking a Systems Administrator 3 for a contract/hybrid position in Newport News, VA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

• Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience. Master's Degree and 4 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
• UNIX/Linux/Solaris expertise in an enterprise environment.
• Server virtualization and automation expertise in an enterprise environment.
• Security & Patching: Conduct regular patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation across unix/Linux/Solaris environments following established security protocols.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.

• Infrastructure Maintenance: Manage and maintain the VMware HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure, performing routine tasks to ensure optimal performance and high availability.
• Linux Systems Operations: Configure, monitor, and actively troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers and environments. Serve as an escalation point for complex RHEL operational issues.
• Virtualization Support: Administer and maintain virtualization solutions using VMware vSphere and HPE SimpliVity platforms.
• Solaris Administration: Provide administration and support for Solaris operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

High school diploma is required.

Education must be accredited.

WORK HOURS:

5/40 workweek. This is a hybrid-remote position. We expect this position to be onsite two to three days per week. The first weeks of training will be onsite.
