Job summary

ExeQut is seeking a Systems Administrator in Washington, DC to manage Linux/Windows servers, cloud platforms, and security controls within a federal/enterprise setting. You will ensure system availability, perform risk-based vulnerability management, and align with FISMA policies.

Responsibilities include configuring users, monitoring performance, handling tickets (JIRA/ServiceNow), and documenting procedures. A BS in IT/CS and 4–6 years of relevant experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
  • 4–6 years of systems administration experience in federal or enterprise environments.
  • Expert-level Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and IAM administration.
  • Strong knowledge of FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and NIH security requirements.
  • Experience with firewall management, VPN, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools (Tenable).
  • Experience with ticketing systems (JIRA, ServiceNow).
  • Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
  • Security+ or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Monitor performance and availability; identify and resolve issues.
  • Track and manage problem reports using JIRA and ServiceNow.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation using Confluence Wiki.
  • Provide customer service and technical support to staff.
  • Support secure remote access to cloud computing, storage, and services.
  • Administer distributed computing systems including batch queuing software.
  • Implement and maintain FISMA-compliant security practices: firewalls, IDS, DR.
  • Provide security management to identify and resolve vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct ongoing vulnerability assessments and ensure timely resolutions.
  • Support cloud infrastructure for production web services, HPC, and high-throughput processing.
  • Assist in implementation of Government FISMA policies.
  • Manage onboarding/offboarding of system users; maintain access rosters.
  • Support Authority to Operate (ATO) maintenance activities.

Role Overview
  • The Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, configuration, and maintenance of NLM's server infrastructure, computing systems, and network environments.
  • This role ensures system availability, performance, and security in compliance with FISMA and NIH policies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows servers and operating systems.
  • Set up and administer user accounts, disk quotas, permissions, and access controls.
  • Monitor system performance and availability; identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Track and manage problem reports using JIRA and ServiceNow ticketing systems.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation using Confluence Wiki.
  • Provide customer service and technical support to internal and external staff in plain language.
  • Support secure remote access to cloud computing, storage, and service platforms.
  • Administer distributed computing systems including batch queuing software.
  • Implement and maintain FISMA‑compliant security practices: firewalls, intrusion detection systems, secure computing environments, disaster recovery.
  • Provide security management to identify and resolve vulnerabilities in Windows and Linux systems.
  • Conduct ongoing vulnerability assessments and ensure resolution within prescribed timelines.
  • Support cloud computing infrastructure for production web services, HPC, and high‑throughput processing.
  • Assist in implementation of computer security practices including Government FISMA policies.
