Job Description

Summary:

The incumbent is heavily involved in decisions related to systems administration, including evaluating feasibility and potential impacts on organizational units. Performs a variety of full performance level professional and complex technical duties necessary to maintain daily computer system operations. Duties are divided into three primary areas: systems programming, database administration, and systems administration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and coordinate activities of assigned projects, develop and implement project plans, and monitor project workflows for compliance.
  2. Resolve general technical issues.
  3. Manage critical enterprise security systems related to resource security for internal and external systems and data.
  4. Direct computer operations on system-related tasks.
  5. Schedule system maintenance and suggest problem resolutions.
  6. Develop and provide user coordination and training, coordinate user involvement in project plans, and create usable documentation.
  7. Perform systems programming for Midrange and Server operating systems and associated program products.
  8. Maintain system software integrity, develop backup and recovery procedures, and ensure privacy and security of systems software.
  9. Analyze and modify software parameters to interface with related software products.
  10. Troubleshoot software problems, assess system software conditions, and implement repairs to minimize downtime.
  11. Communicate system failure information to vendors and coordinate resolution.
  12. Coordinate hardware and software platforms to maintain connectivity.
  13. Write and maintain special purpose systems software such as user exits and programming tools.
  14. Perform capacity planning and recommend future upgrades.
  15. Create procedures and processes for software support.
  16. Manage installation, maintenance, tuning of systems software, hardware, and database systems, and perform related tasks like file conversions and security tests.
  17. Maintain database integrity, develop backup and recovery procedures, and ensure database security.
  18. Use vendor utilities for database change requests and communicate changes to users.
  19. Define and maintain user profiles and security scripts.
  20. Support end-user applications and write implementation plans and technical communications.
  21. Record tasks, tips, and resolutions in the problem/change management system.
  22. Implement disaster recovery procedures and maintain data center infrastructure and disaster recovery infrastructure.
  23. Maintain regular attendance, confidentiality, and perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in data processing, computer science, information technology, or related field, plus four years of responsible computer systems administration or equivalent experience. Preference for experience with:

  • Microsoft Exchange and Email
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Microsoft 365
  • Active Directory
  • Certificate management

Experience in database management, hardware/software design, and programming is preferred. Certifications like Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, HP/Unix are also preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have technical skills in database management, system design, LAN, programming, hardware, operating systems, telecommunication, data communication, security principles, virtual networking, data switching, and connectivity across platforms. Ability to analyze IT issues, diagnose problems, and communicate effectively with team members and management is essential.

Excellent communication skills are required, including project management, technical writing, and the ability to lead a team and present ideas clearly. Must possess basic mathematical skills, including algebra, geometry, binary and hexadecimal systems, and metric conversions.

Ability to follow instructions, prioritize, meet deadlines, work independently or in teams, multitask, and handle stress effectively is necessary. The candidate must demonstrate judgment, integrity, and alignment with URS values.

Work Environment

The role is performed in a typical office setting, requiring activities such as walking, standing, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs is required. Good dexterity is necessary for daily tasks.
