Job summary

Duck River Electric Membership Corporation is seeking a Systems Administrator to configure and maintain our networked computer systems, including hardware, software, and applications. You will ensure data is securely stored and backed up, and diagnose issues across servers, networks, and security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Network Administration, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems required or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years experience administering operating systems, servers, and applications.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and protocols.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMware, or equivalent.
  • IT certifications (Linux, Microsoft, or related) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative tasks in VDI to maintain server infrastructure and ensure uptime.
  • Build relationships with vendors and respond on network and infrastructure configuration and inquiries.
  • Install and configure computer infrastructure, servers, storage, and security settings in VMware.
  • Install, administer, and troubleshoot network security; update patches and test defenses; plan disaster recovery.
  • Maintain VOIP telephony systems to support call center operations with vendor coordination.
  • Manage mail server; create new hires and configure policy settings; troubleshoot messages.
  • Administer and support Microsoft Active Directory domains, virtualization hypervisors, Cisco routing/switching.
  • Assist with help-desk services and prioritize requests to improve end-user support.

Overview

The Systems Administrator is responsible for configuring and maintaining the networked computer system, including hardware, system software, and applications. Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly. Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system issues when they arise.

What you will do
  • Performs administrative tasks in VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) to maintain server infrastructure and to ensure optimal performance and maintain systems to attain maximum uptime.
  • Build strong relationships with vendors and respond and communicate on network and infrastructure configuration, troubleshooting, questions, and inquiries.
  • Build and install computer infrastructure, which encompasses hardware, servers, and virtual machines, using a VMware environment. Configure for production by creating user accounts, controlling access to networks, and managing storage and security settings.
  • Install, administer, and troubleshoot network security solutions. Update software with the latest security patches and ensure the proper defenses are present for each network resource. Perform vulnerability and penetration tests, identifying and defending against threats, and develop disaster recovery plans. Configure security systems, analyze security requirements, and recommend improvements, monitoring network traffic for suspicious behavior. Creating network policies and authorization roles and defending against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction.
  • Performs administrative tasks and maintenance of VOIP telephony systems to support call center operations. Coordinates with vendor support to ensure systems are operational and updated.
  • Manages the mail server and provides support to users. Create accounts for new hires and develop policy settings for different departments. Troubleshooting incoming and outbound messages.
  • Administers and supports core infrastructure technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory domains, virtualization hypervisors and management tools, Cisco routing and switching, and various server applications.
  • Assists with help-desk services to provide support for end users; prioritizes service requests to provide efficient service to end users.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Network Administration, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems Required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • 3-5 years Experience in the administration of operating systems, servers, and applications Required
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMware, or equivalent.
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing help desk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Valid Driver's License Upon Hire Required
  • CompTIA A+ Certification Preferred
  • CompTIA Network+ Certification Preferred
  • Cisco CCNA network certification Preferred
