Job summary

The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking an experienced IT Systems Administrator to join its Information Technology Department in a full-time, exempt role. The incumbent will maintain and support Village information systems and infrastructure, including cloud applications, servers, networks, public safety technology, AV gear, and end-user support, reporting to the IT Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS or related field with four years of IT support experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience supporting municipal IT environments is a plus.
  • Able to install, modify, troubleshoot IT hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot software, hardware, workstations, servers, and endpoints.
  • Maintain IT infrastructure and cloud applications; monitor systems performance.
  • Provide frontline and tier-2 end user support and resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical support for Police Department technology and projects.
  • Support audio/visual equipment, physical security, and access-control systems.
  • Collaborate with users to analyze needs and recommend solutions.

Description

The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking an experienced and customer service-oriented IT professional to join its Information Technology Department as a full-time Systems Administrator. This hands‑on position supports a diverse municipal technology environment, including IT infrastructure, cloud applications, servers and endpoints, networking, public safety technology, physical security systems, audio/visual systems, and end‑user support.

The Systems Administrator maintains and supports Village information systems and technology infrastructure; installs, configures, and troubleshoots hardware and software; responds to technical support requests; and identifies opportunities to improve system performance. As a direct point of contact for end user support, the Systems Administrator is expected to provide responsive and courteous service to users of the system and to members of the public. This position reports directly to the Information Technology Director.

Essential Functions
  • Install, configure, modify, maintain, and troubleshoot software, hardware, workstations, servers, telecommunications, and endpoint devices.
  • Maintain Village information systems infrastructure and cloud applications and monitor systems performance to identify and implement improvements.
  • Provide frontline and tier‑two end user support, including responding to service requests, resolving technical issues and assisting users with technology needs.
  • Provide technical support for specialized Police Department technology and projects.
  • Implement, operate, and support audio/visual equipment, physical security systems, including cameras and access‑control technology, and point‑of‑sale terminals.
  • Work with users to analyze operational and technology needs and recommend procedures or solutions to enhance operations.
  • Identify areas for improvement within IT and contribute to the development and implementation of improved systems, policies, procedures, and service practices.
Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field and four (4) years of IT support experience; oran equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required License
  • Valid Driver’s License
Knowledge and Skills
  • Networking hardware, configuration, and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and server and endpoint operating systems, and job‑related computer applications and technology systems.
  • Ability to install, modify, troubleshoot, and support a variety of IT hardware, software, and systems.
  • Ability to analyze technology requirements and identify appropriate hardware and software solutions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily performed in an office setting and throughout Village facilities. The position requires hands‑on installation and maintenance of technology equipment and the ability to lift, carry, and position equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekends, or after‑hours work required to support system maintenance, technology projects, outages, and other operational needs.

Salary/Benefits

Salary range for the position is $93,296.00 – $130,615.00, with the hiring range being +/- $110,000.00. Starting salary will be dependent upon qualifications, experience, and professional achievement.
