Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate’s Degree in a Computer Science related field and 2 or more years of related experience, a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft applications/infrastructure and security practices.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with a customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a mix of Windows and Linux servers to ensure high availability.
  • Admin Active Directory, patching, and user access management.
  • Maintain virtual environments including VMware and Hyper-V deployments.
  • Ensure security and regulatory compliance across server infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.

Position Summary

The System Administrator's role is to manage in-house computer software systems, servers, storage devices and network connections to ensure high availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with organizational goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities, and positions titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.

Operational Management:
  • Manage virtual and physical servers with Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
  • Manage Active Directory, server and workstation patching.
  • Manage the physical and virtual environment of 100 plus servers.
  • Managing server virtualization technologies such as VMWare Server/ESX or Microsoft HyperV/Virtual Server.
  • Have familiarity with database server installation, licensing and management.
  • Must be familiar with windows clustering, domain controller setup, and Group Policy.
  • Ensure the security of the server infrastructure by implementing industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation about current environment setup, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
  • Expert in Windows and software automation process using scripting languages such as PowerShell and bash.
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices.
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores using leading industry tools.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and correct hardware and software issues on servers, and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Practice server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware upgrades, patches and reconfigurations.
  • Develop required reports in response to business users and management needs.
  • Manage vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services.
  • Build and deploy new servers on the network as needed.
  • Act as a service desk support when requested or needed.
  • Have familiarity with advanced storage management solutions.
Strategy & Planning:
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with End-users and department managers.
Acquisition & Deployment:
  • Coordinate with the rest of the Information Technology Department to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet NHBP objectives.
  • Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems, and other technology appliance systems.
  • Procure software and parts as instructed by the Chief Information Officer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUAILIFICATIONS

  • Must have an Associate’s Degree in a Computer Science related field and 2 or more years of related experience, a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft applications/infrastructure.
  • Must possess strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, a customer service orientation and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Must possess demonstrated strong documentation/reporting skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Capable of resolving critical software and hardware issues in a time sensitive manner, cognizant of requisite service levels.
  • Experience with Windows Services such as DNS, WINS, DHCP, TCP/IP, RDP.
  • A strong understanding of network infrastructure, including familiarity with TCP/IP and LAN/WAN network protocols, firewall management, and operating system configuration.
  • Understanding and experience implementing security policies on information technology hardware.
  • Understanding Domain Authentication concepts and management.
  • Experience with VMWare or other virtual environments.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Prior work history that demonstrates a commitment to team-building, constructive problem-solving, maintain a high level of performance with no or minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, week-ends, and holidays as needed with or without notice, or as part of an on-call rotation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the Executive Team, Tribal Council, and other departmental leaders.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be GSA certifiable. Must be able to travel, if required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to understand, gain knowledge, and appreciate the difference with Native American culture and customs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Mac OS (including mobile devices) and MDM solutions.
  • CCNA, Security+, or other related certifications.
  • Experience managing a Microsoft 365 environment.
