Job Summary

We specialize in power generation and delivery, including high-voltage electrical systems, substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy facilities like wind farms, solar farms, and BESS facilities. The Electrical Engineer with a focus on the power sector will support project teams by leading design components and demonstrating expertise in core responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Understand power engineering principles, especially in high-voltage systems and components related to power generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Coordinate effectively with project stakeholders and across disciplines, including substation physical, protection & control, SCADA, civil, structural, and more.
  • Lead engineering efforts throughout project milestones.
  • Assist in developing proposals and estimates for bidding and change orders.
  • Collaborate with drafters and engineers on design drawings and packages.
  • Participate in site visits, field walkdowns, or client meetings as needed.
  • Communicate workload and progress to project and discipline managers, ensuring quality and adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Teams, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MathCAD.
  • Draft, review, and finalize technical documents, including design criteria, drawings, reports, specifications, and scope of work.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, USDA.
  • Review interdisciplinary design packages for coordination and compliance.
  • Adhere to Atwell’s quality and safety standards.

Key Competencies and Skillset

Interconnection

  • Experience with PSCAD, PSSE, and dynamic analysis.
  • Knowledge of industry standards like NERC PRC, IEEE 1547, FERC orders.
  • Familiarity with generation interconnection processes in ERCOT, MISO, SPP, and FERC.
  • Proficiency with software such as PSLF, ETAP, Windmil, and others.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and explain complex concepts clearly.

Electrical Studies

  • Strong understanding of electrical theories for load flow, short circuit, grounding, and protection studies.
  • Experience with software like ETAP, CYMCAP, PSSE, PSCAD, and others.
  • Review interconnection studies, ensure compliance, and document findings.

Education

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred for Level I-III
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred for Level IV and above
