Job summary

MatX is seeking a System Software Engineer to design and build the node-level management plane and cluster management for its high‑performance AI silicon. You will work on HTTP/REST APIs, on-node daemons, and tooling across the stack from kernel drivers to BMC firmware, with ownership and cross‑stack collaboration.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years of systems software experience, strong Linux development skills, and proficiency in C plus a systems language (Go/Rust/C++/Python).

Qualifications

• 8+ years in systems software; not a pure web-services role
• Strong Linux systems development experience including low-level userspace
• Proficient in C and at least one systems language (Go, Rust, C++, or Python)
• Experience designing HTTP/REST APIs and CLI tools for hardware/infrastructure management
• Understanding of device drivers, telemetry paths, PCIe behavior, and BMC-managed subsystems

Responsibilities

• Design and build node-level management plane exposing health, inventory, telemetry, and control via HTTP/REST APIs
• Develop cluster management solutions and failover algorithms
• Create management CLI utilities for on-node daemons and telemetry daemons
• Coordinate with BMC firmware engineers for unified in-band and out-of-band management
• Extend node capabilities to fleet-wide health, inventory, alerts, and integrations
• Prototype and debug across API, daemon, kernel, firmware, and hardware boundaries
• Define software contracts between on-node daemons, BMC, and management layer
• Shape scalability for new hardware platforms from single node to rack-level
