Job description

Overview

GovCIO is hiring a System Security Engineer to maintain and monitor firewalls and other network defense technologies and detect abnormal behaviors for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The candidate will reconcile findings from system assessments, audits, and vulnerability scans. This position is fully remote within the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Apply NIST Risk Management Framework to strengthen federal agencies cybersecurity and compliance.
  • Development and submission of maintenance security packages through eMASS.
  • Evaluate and resubmit controls for validation on an annual basis via eMASS, ensuring timely Plan of Action and Milestone (POA&M) maintenance as required.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly POA&Ms for each Authority to Operate (ATO) package, reflecting the status of monthly vulnerability scans.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for user account provisioning and end-user security controls.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity Computer Science, Information Technology with 12+ years of experience or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process, including ATO. package development and its integration with Risk Management Framework procedures.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Understanding firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.

Clearance Required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/Public Trust

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
