Job summary

General Motors Research & Development invites applications for a System Safety Intern role. Candidates will conduct research, develop safety analyses, and contribute to safety case development across engineering, AI/ML, and cybersecurity domains.

The position emphasizes aligning safety claims with standards (ISO 26262, UL 4600, AI safety) and working with multiple teams to strengthen traceability and evidence quality. Must be a current student and able to work fulltime during summer.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of an advanced degree in engineering, math, CS, robotics, safety management, or related field.
• Must be a current student and able to work fulltime 40 hours per week in summer months.
• US citizenship or Green Card holder required for eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety analyses and develop system safety cases for complex, safety-critical products.
• Define claims and sufficiency criteria; evaluate evidence with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare safety-case materials for product submissions, audits, and external assessments.
• Integrate evidence from systems engineering, AI/ML, cybersecurity, validation, and safety.
• Identify gaps, surface risks, and suggest timely escalation and resolution.
• Advance safety-evidence collection automation and improve traceability.
