Job summary

Joby Aviation is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join the system safety and certification organization. You will perform system safety assessments of flight-critical components and propulsion subsystems for electric VTOL aircraft.

Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, software, and hardware engineers to identify safety issues, establish safety requirements, and participate in design reviews throughout the aircraft development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of industry experience.
• Advanced engineering degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) with 3+ years of professional experience.
• Experience with system safety analyses (FHA, FMEA, FTA, CCA) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct system safety assessments (FHA, FMEA, FTA, CCA) across aircraft systems with emphasis on propulsion.
• Establish, review and manage safety requirements.
• Collaborate with systems, software and hardware engineering teams to identify safety issues.
• Participate in design reviews and provide safety input throughout development lifecycle.
• Maintain system safety artifacts and update with design/configuration changes.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

MS or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
