Job summary

Apera is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to drive safety assessments for next-generation eVTOL aircraft. You will lead FHA, PSSA, SSA, FTA, and FMEA/FMECA activities and collaborate across Systems, Avionics, and Certification teams to enable regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace systems safety engineering
• Strong understanding of ARP4761/4761A and ARP4754A
• Hands-on FHA, PSSA, SSA, FTA and FMEA/FMECA
• Experience in safety-critical aerospace environments
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams
• US Citizenship or Green Card holder

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver safety assessments across aircraft systems.
• Produce and maintain FHA, PSSA, SSA, FTA, FMEA/FMECA, and CCA.
• Define and manage safety requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Systems, Avionics, Flight Controls, Electrical Power, Propulsion and Certification teams.
• Support aircraft certification activities with FAA and EASA regulatory requirements.
• Review system architectures and ensure compliance with safety objectives.
• Contribute to safety cases and regulatory submissions.

Job description

We're supporting an innovative eVTOL aircraft developer that is looking to bring an experienced Systems Safety Engineer into their growing engineering team. You'll play a key role in the development and certificate of next-generation electric aircraft, working at the forefront of Advanced Air Mobility.

This is an opportunity to work on a highly complex aerospace programme, influencing safety-critical design decisions from concept through to certification.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and deliver safety assessments across aircraft systems.
• Produce and maintain:
• Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA)
• Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA)
• System Safety Assessments (SSA)
• Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
• Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA)
• Common Cause Analysis (CCA)
• Define and manage safety requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
• Work closely with Systems, Avionics, Flight Controls, Electrical Power, Propulsion and Certification teams.
• Support aircraft certification activities with FAA and EASA regulatory requirements.
• Review system architectures and ensure compliance with safety objectives.
• Contribute to safety cases and regulatory submissions.

What We're Looking For

• Experience in aerospace systems safety engineering
• Strong understanding of ARP4761/4761A and ARP4754A
• Hands-on experience delivering FHA, PSSA, SSA, FTA and FMEA activities
• Experience within a safety-critical aerospace environment
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Must be US Citizen/Green Card Holder

Bonus Experience

• eVTOL, UAV, Rotorcraft or Commercial Aircraft programmes
• SC-VTOL, Part 23, Part 27 or equivalent certification frameworks
• Electric propulsion, battery systems or flight control systems
• Medini Analyze, Isograph, CAFTA or similar safety tools
• MBSE environments and systems engineering processes
