Job summary

Cornerstone Defense LLC is seeking a System Safety Engineer in Aurora, CO, with on-site work at a Raytheon facility. The role requires an active Secret clearance, a STEM degree, and extensive system safety experience within defense domains.

Compensation ranges from $150,000 to $190,000 annually. The successful candidate will drive safety requirements, perform analyses, mentor junior engineers, and interface with customers and program offices to ensure safety across multiple large programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience or an Associate's degree and 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years' experience.
• Experience with System Safety, System Engineering or related safety engineering in aerospace/DoD domains.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance (US citizenship required).
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Experience with DoD or Aerospace programs.

Responsibilities

• Design concise, testable safety requirements or analyze existing requirements.
• Perform System Safety Program or Design analyses.
• Lead safety program improvements in large or multiple programs.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and interface with stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and prepare Safety Assessment Reports and Briefs.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design of concise, testable safety requirements or providing safety analysis of existing requirements
• Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
• Placement in challenging or under-performing programs with the expectation of improvement of the safety program
• Managing multiple-large system safety programs or a safety product line
• Collaborating with other disciplines during program technical execution
• Interfacing with key stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
• Mentoring Multiple Jr. Engineers
• Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
• Streamlining processes and reports across a product line for improved efficiency
• Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design On-Site Means they will be working at a Raytheon Facility.

Qualifications:

• Typically Requires: Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR an Associate's degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years' experience. In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
• Experience with: System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering experience in areas such as Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance
• System thinking and the desire to influence the program as a whole
• Experience with industry System Safety Programs (especially in DoD or Aerospace fields) Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
• Experience working with US Military programs
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
