Job Description
The system operations technician is to be the central communication liaison between various departments, Mission Control, and corporate communications during large outages, storms and routine operations. Monitor supervisory control and data acquisition alarms (SCADA), computer aided dispatch system (CAD), customer information system (CIS), and electric outage management system (EOMS) and provides technical assistance and scheduling for field operations. Monitor customer appointments and dispatches customer related orders and outages. Provide technical support to distribution control when needed in accordance with company record and retention policy. The System Operations Technician will be required to achieve proficiency and ability to move to the associate distribution operator position in the future.

Monitor supervisory control and data acquisition alarms (SCADA), computer aided dispatch system (CAD), customer information system (CIS), and electric outage management system (EOMS) and provides technical assistance and scheduling for field operations. Monitor customer appointments and dispatches customer related orders and outages. Provide technical support to distribution control when needed in accordance with company record and retention policy. The System Operations Technician will be required to achieve proficiency and ability to move to the associate distribution operator position in the future.
Responsibilities
Correspond with mission control, corporate communications, key account managers, electric delivery management, and various other departments to supply situational information from the control room to these individuals and departments. (45%)
Provide technical support to distribution operators by performing after-hours callouts, monitoring locates, logging breaker operations, monitoring CAD, scheduling routine work and other duties as needed. (15%)
Monitor customer service system and computer aided dispatch system (CAD) for same day orders, emergency locate orders, route and assign orders to mobile data terminal or print paper order and give to appropriate distribution coordinator or perform callout and dispatch order appropriately. Monitor orders for accuracy and pertinent information. (10%)
Monitor electric outage management system for accurate information on outages and locations and correct any misinformation that may delay the distribution coordinator in assigning the order. Also provide outage information at specific times and days from the history contained in the electric outage management system. (10%)
Central communication point during large outages and storms. Relay information to corporate communications, energy advisors, call center and receive and share data from storm centers and the field personnel with the above-mentioned groups. (10%)
Use Access system to provide feeder outages requested by various departments in the company. (5%)
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. Perform additional duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor or technical degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)
Personal computer proficiency with emphasis on the Microsoft business package is required.
Knowledge of the customer service system, electric outage management system, computer aided dispatch system, and SIREN systems will be a plus.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain objective in adverse situations.
Provide technical support to distribution coordinators by performing after-hours callouts, monitoring the locate printer, logging breaker operations and other duties as needed.
Coordinating skills to meet deadlines and to coordinate activities to solve problems. Must be flexible to work 12-hour rotating shifts covering a 24/7 operation and be willing to be called into work during off hours to meet increased demands.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.
