About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Virtualization to join the enterprise infrastructure team responsible for Windows server infrastructure, virtualization, and the Microsoft 365 platform across a major global financial services organization. This role sits at the center of the firm's active virtualization modernization program, driving a large-scale migration from VMware to Nutanix.

This is a senior individual contributor position with a product management mindset — you'll take direct ownership of a large hypervisor refresh project supporting a SOX-governed, multi-entity, multi-datacenter environment, balancing day-to-day operational needs with longer-horizon infrastructure and platform strategy.

What You'll Do

• Lead execution of a large-scale hypervisor refresh project across architecture, design, cluster builds, and VM migrations
• Manage the private cloud virtual estate across multiple datacenters, with future work planning the expansion from on-prem private cloud to public cloud providers
• Manage a hosted Kubernetes solution and virtualization-native automation/self-service tooling
• Own capacity management and performance engineering across HCI, 3-tier, and cloud deployments
• Handle FinOps and reporting for the virtualization platform
• Configure hypervisors to maintain security baselines (e.g., CIS)
• Drive automation and process improvement, including BAU runbooks
• Size and configure hardware (Dell/HP/Supermicro)
• Provide strategic input to team leadership on roadmap and evaluation of new functionality
• Train and mentor junior engineers
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders across the organization
• Support Windows server management and operations
• Own complex, cross-team infrastructure requests and incidents

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years in enterprise systems engineering with deep, hands‑on virtualization experience (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper‑V) in a large-scale production environment
• Experience with private cloud solutions from Nutanix or VMware (Nutanix Cloud Manager or VCF and Aria suite)
• Experience operating in environments with 100+ hosts / 1,000+ VMs
• Proven track record planning, executing, and serving as a key decision maker in large hypervisor migrations
• Strong grasp of VM capacity and performance analysis, including right‑sizing memory/CPU based on utilization data
• Storage and SAN fundamentals supporting 3‑tier deployments
• Experience with HCI deployments, including management and capacity planning
• PowerShell/scripting for reporting and automation
• Experience in a regulated, multi‑entity environment with formal change management (SOX controls, ITSM tooling such as Provance, ServiceNow, or similar)
• An enthusiastic adopter of AI tooling and automation, eager to explore how emerging AI capabilities can improve operational efficiency and engineering quality
