Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions‑free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Responsibilities
  • Ownership of key electrical sub‑systems and functionals within new DC high power charging products
  • Delivery of electrical hardware and charging functions by coordinating cross‑functional decision making between hardware and software teams
  • Ownership of requirements development and coordination of sign‑off across multiple teams including vehicle, cloud and mobile
  • Contribute to architecture development and electrical system‑level design for all charging products
  • Analyze and evaluate design impacts associated with alternate designs or new components and vendors.
  • Collaborate with validation teams on system/sub‑system plans for requirement traceability. This includes taking ownership of the requirements from definition through to comprehensive testing and verification.
  • Proactively and independently solve routine problems, contributing meaningfully to team objectives.
  • Work closely with the software team to define interfaces, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the successful integration of charging hardware and software systems.
  • Analyze test data to identify performance trends and areas for optimization in electrical and power systems.
  • Work closely with the design team to suggest and implement modifications that improve product performance, durability, and user satisfaction.
  • Create and maintain essential technical documentation, including schematics, manuals, specifications, and test reports.
  • As a highly skilled specialist, you will contribute to the development of concepts and techniques and complete complex tasks in creative and effective ways.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2+ years of system engineering related experience.
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools and agile project management tools (Jira and Confluence preferred).
  • Proficiency in applying DFMEA's, functional safety analysis and/or other systems engineering tools.
  • Proficiency in using common languages for data analysis and leveraging AI tools as part of daily workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing EV charging products or significant understanding of the EV charging space.
  • Compliance experience with UL/IEEE/SAE standards is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering within electric vehicle charging, power conversion equipment, and/or renewable energy (PV, energy storage).
  • Experience working with high‑voltage systems.
  • Confident in use of data analysis platforms such as Databricks.
  • Experience working with different communication protocols and integrating complex systems.
