System Director Laboratory Svs

The System Director, Laboratory is responsible for the overall operation, leadership, direction, and administration of the Clinical Laboratories in the Bronson system in accordance with regulations governing clinical laboratories. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in clinical laboratory science, Master’s degree in Business or Health Administration, and 7 years progressively responsible management experience in a clinical laboratory required

NCA or ASCP laboratory certification ie. MT/MLS, CT, HT (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan)

  • Able to positively interact and develop rapport with patients and their families, professional support staff, team members and various levels of staff from community agencies

Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.

  • Lead the ongoing review and improvement of laboratory services assuring best of class distinction for quality and service is obtained within the parameters of available resources, applicable professional and technical standards, and regulatory agency expectations.
  • Establish and maintain a culture that focuses staff on assuring all patient and customer interactions result in a positive experience.
  • Plan and develop yearly operating budgets with top quartile productivity standards and meet these standards on an annual basis.
  • Develop and implement growth strategies to assure and sustain future viability and service excellence.
  • Develop and implement effective learning programs which maximize the skills, knowledge, and career enrichment of technical and non-technical staff.
  • Develop and implement effective methodologies in collaboration with the Laboratory Medical Director to achieve best of class distinction for laboratory services and ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with peers, colleagues and the medical staff to support interdependent functions and practices (especially within the framework of process improvement and under the guidance of outcome related data).
  • Provide consultation and guidance pertaining to laboratory service and patient care service as needed by leadership and peers.
  • Assist in developing, interpreting, supporting and executing the goals of the system within the organizational framework.
  • Identify and track emerging trends in laboratory medicine that may necessitate course adjustments to the strategic plans of the department and the institution.
  • Assess, plan, implement, direct, and evaluate activities to maintain or increase the overall effectiveness and efficiency of services provided in support of the healthcare system’s mission, vision, and values.
