System Development Engineer, WW AMZL Innovation and Design Engineering

Amazon is seeking an experienced, innovative, and customer-obsessed Software Development Engineer to lead the development of robotic products for our Delivery Stations. The successful candidate will be part of the Amazon Logistics Innovation Engineering team, responsible for strategizing, defining, and managing robotics software development to enhance our delivery network.

This role requires entrepreneurial individuals with robotics, engineering, planning, and analytical skills. The engineer will influence the last mile automation roadmap by collaborating with Robotics, Software Tech Teams, Process Engineering, Operations, Facilities, and Engineering teams to improve customer experience.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop and improve software for complex mechatronic products in robotics and automation.
2. Understand and integrate new vendor technologies into Amazon Logistics Software Architecture.
3. Test and commission software on machines in Innovation Centers and operational sites worldwide.

Required skills and qualifications

• Advanced expertise in industrial automation systems (e.g., TIA Portal, Codesys, HMI, VFDs, Servo Drives, Industrial Fieldbuses).
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (TCP/IP, OPC-UA).
• Experience with camera systems, Linux OS, and version control systems like git.
• Proficiency in Object-Oriented Industrial Programming.
• Experience managing automation software development, including design, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Strong project management skills, including site commissioning and testing.
• Excellent communication skills across diverse cultural contexts.
• Knowledge of safety standards and certification processes.
• Experience with automation solutions such as conveyors, sorters, and robotic work cells.

Basic qualifications

• Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
• Proficiency with Linux/Unix and CI/CD pipelines.
• Programming experience with Codesys and at least one modern language (Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust).

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with distributed systems at scale.
