Amazon Robotics is building new automation systems that will transform warehouse operations. We are seeking a talented and motivated System Development Engineer to design and develop controls for integrating robotics systems and industrial automation equipment.

The System Development Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation solutions. This role also involves acting as an integration resource for internal product development teams and supporting global Amazon customers.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Design, simplify, and improve system controls architecture, including machine control code, networking, electrical design, and safety design.
  2. Develop controls code using structured text and ladder-logic on CodeSys and Studio 5000 platforms.
  3. Identify and implement system optimizations.
  4. Contribute to value engineering of electrical and controls hardware components.
  5. Travel up to 50% to support onsite system testing.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement.
  • 5+ years of control system experience with PLC-based controls design, development, and support.
  • 5+ years of machine control code development experience with structured text and/or ladder-logic.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs, and Soft PLCs/IPCs.
  • Experience deploying and supporting industrial automation products at scale.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices for code management and reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of software/hardware/network development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, certification, and testing.
  • Experience developing controls code with Codesys platform.
  • Experience with industrial automation and controls system design.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and industrial networks.
  • Experience with industrial automation safety design.
  • Embedded programming skills in C/C++, Java, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience with HMI design and development.
  • Ability to improve systems development, implementation, and user experience.
