Job description

Job ID: 2936889 | Amazon.com Services LLC

AFT Platform Engineering & Services is looking for a Systems Development Engineer to join our team! In this role you will contribute to improving development and operational excellence of multiple warehouse technology services utilized by our customers.

Each day, millions of customer shipments are processed worldwide through AFT services. Our team works on tools that enforce Engineering best practices that ensure availability and scalability of these production services that process millions of shipments.

We are looking for systems development engineers who are excited to work on complex system software and are passionate about solving availability and scalability challenges in innovative ways.

As a System Development Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing our system architecture. You'll own and implement specific components of the system. You'll collaborate closely with other engineers in the organization, identify areas of improvement and opportunities for automation, and drive them to closure. As an experienced engineer, you will provide technical experience to the team, drive best practices, mentor other engineers, and drive continuous improvements in engineering and operational excellence.

Key Job Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include diagnosing and fixing production software issues, developing monitoring solutions, performing software maintenance and configuration, implementing fixes for internally developed code (Perl, C/C++, JAVA), debugging and executing persistence solutions queries, updating, tracking, and resolving technical challenges. Responsibilities also include working alongside development on Amazon Corporate and Divisional Software projects, updating/enhancing our current software, automation of support processes, documentation of our systems, and managing AFT org level operational cadence and programs.

The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have superior verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, be able to juggle multiple tasks at once, work independently, and maintain professionalism under pressure. You must be able to identify problems before they happen and implement solutions that detect and prevent outages. You must be able to accurately prioritize projects, make sound judgments, work to improve the customer experience, and get the right things done.

This is an amazing opportunity in terms of responsibility, interesting challenges, and high visibility. We truly are looking for the highest quality candidates, so you should expect a rigorous technical interview process. Please note travel might be required.

A Day in the Life

A typical day on our team involves collaborating with other engineers to deploy software through our large automated systems and operationally supporting your newly deployed software. You will seek out new approaches to automate fixes for operational issues, use AWS services to solve design problems, and engage other internal teams to integrate your applications with theirs.

You'll be part of a world-class team in an inclusive environment that has the entrepreneurial feel of a start-up. This is an opportunity to operate and engineer systems on a massive scale, and to gain top-notch experience in cloud computing.
