Job summary

Vanderbilt Health in Nashville, TN invites a System Chief Nursing Officer to set the vision for nursing practice standards, quality, and workforce development across a rapidly growing academic health system.

The System CNO will partner with executive and physician leaders to drive clinical transformation, advance evidence-based practice, and foster professional nursing excellence across eight hospitals and related settings. This is a unique opportunity to shape nursing leadership and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees required (one must be in Nursing). Doctorate preferred.
• Current RN license in Tennessee (or ability to obtain); NEA-BC or CENP preferred.
• At least 10 years progressive executive nursing leadership experience in a large, complex health system, with CNO in a multi-hospital environment strongly preferred.
• Experience across academic and community-based healthcare settings.
• Demonstrated success developing high-performing teams and future nurse leaders.
• Exceptional strategic, communication, and relationship-building skills with executive, physician, and board stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as System CNO, vision and strategic direction for nursing practice standards and patient care.
• Lead system-wide clinical transformation across eight hospitals and regional network.
• Partner with executive, physician, and operational leaders to advance quality, safety, and patient experience.
• Develop nurse leaders and foster workforce engagement and professional nursing excellence.
