Job Title: Systems Administrator - Policy Administration Systems

Type: Contract-to-Hire (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: 100% Remote (U.S.-based candidates only)
Industry: Financial Services - Life, Annuities, Health Insurance

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Systems Administrator to support a blend of mainframe and Java-based applications within our client's Policy Administration Systems domain. This individual will play a key role in the operational support, configuration, release planning, and vendor coordination for enterprise platforms tied to core insurance products including life, annuities, and health.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential for direct placement, ideal for someone with experience supporting enterprise applications and systems in the financial services space.

Key Responsibilities

System Administration & Configuration

  • Provide daily support and configuration of both mainframe and Java-based applications.
  • Perform data analysis, diagnostic testing, and resolve system/platform issues within policy admin systems.
  • Run scripts, manage certificates, and troubleshoot infrastructure components supporting policy transactions.
  • Assist in release planning, upgrade impact analysis, and vendor-delivered patches.
  • Collaborate on DevOps, automation, and CI/CD practices as needed.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation to ensure system uptime and timely issue resolution outside of normal business hours.

Policy Admin System Focus

  • Work closely within insurance product platforms focused on annuities, life, and health insurance.
  • Analyze system behavior in production tied to policy operations and transactions.
  • Investigate failed processes, trace components, and propose configuration-based solutions.
  • Partner with external vendors to support system configuration, maintenance, and release validation.
  • Understand vendor roadmaps and ensure compatibility with internal infrastructure.
  • Participate in proof-of-concept efforts for third-party tools and integrations.

Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product owners, developers, business stakeholders, and architects.
  • Support system integrations, user provisioning, and infrastructure management across teams.
  • Participate in team planning and support rotations, including after-hours and weekend support as needed.

Preferred Background & Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of systems/platform administration experience
  • Experience supporting Java applications and mainframe technologies
  • Background in insurance or financial services, ideally with exposure to policy administration systems
  • Strong understanding of system infrastructure (Linux, Windows), networking concepts, and IT controls
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and remediate technical issues independently
  • Willingness to provide on-call support as part of a rotation

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Benefit Administration Systems, Annuity or Life Insurance systems
  • Knowledge of SQL, Java, SFTP, APIs
  • Experience with access provisioning, entitlement models, and release/change management
  • Knowledge of test data management and masking
  • Understanding of DevOps or automation pipelines
