Job summary

Sandia Area Federal Credit Union is hiring a System Administrator I to design, build, and maintain both on‑premise and cloud server environments, reporting to the Lead System Administrator. The role emphasizes security, backups, and efficient IT operations in a credit union setting.

You will manage user accounts, patch systems, automate tasks with scripts, and collaborate with vendors and the IT team to support growth and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Basic working knowledge in virtualization systems and ability to optimize them.
  • Ability to work with cloud-based applications such as Office 365, Azure, and Asana.
  • Ability to write, maintain, and organize documentation for IT systems and related issues.
  • Ability to communicate highly technical information into user-friendly terms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and implement virtual and physical server infrastructure on premise and in the cloud.
  • Maintain servers, networks, user accounts, permissions, and security.
  • Install, patch, and update hardware/software; manage backups and vendor SLAs.
  • Create and update IT department documentation; participate in on-call rotation.

You are entrusted to uphold our values in every interaction, ensuring trust, accuracy, and a focus on service excellence.Reporting directly to the Lead System Administrator, the System Administrator I is responsible for designing, building, and implementing virtual and physical server infrastructure both on premise and in the cloud. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all systems to dynamically address the needs of a growing enterprise. Further, the system administrator must stay apprised of updates available for systems and deploying them within policy guidelines.Duties and responsibilitiesTechnical Oversight & ReviewMaintain and support all credit union servers, physical and virtual environments. With guidance, document changes and maintain security on the systems to Sandia Area standards.Maintain user accounts on networks and applications. Ensure proper permissions are established within the network operating systems.Control and implement new servers and related software, ensuring that software is operating on the most current release versions. Seek guidance and research business impact prior to deploying new software.Install hardware and software patches/updates on a regular basis to keep the credit union's security posture high. Identify better approaches to implement security.Review and assess system security architecture to ensure a practical and secure design is implemented.Run and schedule scripts to automate reporting and other processes (Powershell, Bash, Ansible, OpCon, etc.).Update, modify, and optimize GPO's as necessary.Ensure critical backups are successful and useable; work with backup vendor on any issues.Vendor SupportEffectively engage with external vendors to identify, evaluate, and implement solutions for complex IT support challenges.Coordinate vendor relationships to ensure timely resolution of issues, manage service level agreements (SLAs), and escalate concerns when necessary.Strong negotiation and communication skills are essential for ensuring vendors meet the needs of the credit union and align with organizational objectives.Department Operational SupportAct as an escalation resource for IT Support Specialists under the direction of the system administrator lead.Create and update documentation for the department as needed, keeping abreast of new and changing technologies and methodologies for implementation.Communicate problems, delays, and unusual situations to the lead system administrator.Work with the larger IT team as needed on projects such as applications, front line implementations, and databases.Participate in on-call support rotation.Expectations of all with all policies, procedures, and legal guidelines, including adherence to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other applicable financial regulations.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)Basic working knowledge in virtualization systems and ability to optimize them as required, including virtual and physical server and network infrastructure with a requisite understanding of financial institution operations.Ability to work with cloud-based applications such as Office 365, Azure, and Asana.Ability to write, maintain, and organize documentation for IT systems and related issues.Ability to communicate highly technical information into user-friendly terms to both users, managers, vendors, and other support staff.Must be willing and able to drive between worksites and must maintain a valid Driver’s License.Some ability to work independently, demonstrating attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.Exceptional time management and RequirementsAssociate's degree in related field.Other equivalent certification may be considered.One (1) year of applicable experience required.Systems administration and information systems operations experience preferred.Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Microsoft software required.CompTIA Server+, and/or CompTIA Security+ certification preferred.Microsoft 365 Certification
