Job summary

AstenJohnson in Hampton, NH is seeking a Systems Administrator – Windows and Networks to maintain and secure our enterprise IT infrastructure across servers, LAN/WAN, and endpoints. You will partner with Corporate IT and site teams to ensure reliable operations and project delivery.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on Windows and network experience in manufacturing, strong communication, and a proactive approach to security and performance. Travel to other locations (<25%) may be required.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years’ experience supporting end users and Windows server backups in a midsized manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication of complex technical issues.
  • Windows security administration and problem resolution.
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices.
  • Experience with Windows OS, enterprise backup, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Ability to support medium and large-scale projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to plan, document, and communicate complex designs, policies, and procedures.
  • Functional knowledge of web technology preferred.

DEPARTMENT: Business Administration

JOB TITLE: Systems Administrator – Windows and Networks

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Controller

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Reports to the Controller and provides day-to-day support related to system design, architecture, acquisition, and implementation of multiple servers, LAN & WAN network components, workstations, software, system security and virus protection solutions
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure high system availability and stability
  • Reviews and applies software updates, security patches and other fixes as required
  • Manages timely software installations and deployments
  • Evaluates and recommends products and systems in key technology areas proposed by peers or users
  • Provides day-to-day direct end user support for basic Windows, email, printer issues and questions.
  • Works cooperatively with technical personnel in all business units, corporate headquarters, and manufacturing plants to accomplish enterprise-wide goals
  • Identifies, recommends and implements process improvements in support of the Windows servers & workstations, software, and network systems
  • Additional responsibilities include server and network system performance monitoring and tuning, routine patch management of server and network systems, and data backup duties
  • Able to analyze and modify server and network operating conditions as needed to ensure maximum performance
  • Ensure adherence and compliance with AstenJohnson Corporate IT and AJ Nonwovens standards, policies, procedures, and software licensing within the defined scope of responsibility
  • Takes direction from Corporate IT Infrastructure, participates in Corporate IT projects, and acts as the liaison between Corporate IT and the Hampton site.
  • Able to work effectively on independent projects as well as in cross-functional teams;
  • Performs additional duties as required for the position
  • Travel to other AstenJohnson locations, training, or conferences may be required (<25%)
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience supporting end users running Windows client computers, Windows Server backups, and Local Area & Wireless Networks in a midsized manufacturing environment.
  • Requires the ability to effectively understand and communicate complex designs, development, and technical issues both verbally and in written form
  • Windows security administration, and overall problem determination and resolution.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT security best practices
  • Working knowledge of: Windows operating systems; current equipment and technologies in use; enterprise backup and recovery procedures, and system performance monitoring tools.
  • Must possess the aptitude to support technical aspects of both medium and large-scale projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Flexibility in working evenings and weekends is required
  • Ability to plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures; communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergencies effectively; work without the need for constant supervision
  • Functional knowledge of web technology preferred
EDUCATION/TRAINING
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • MCSE, A+, or other related certifications are preferred
