Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Syndicated Bank Loan Operations Manager!
About the Role: The Bank Loan Operations Manager will oversee and manage the operational lifecycle of syndicated loan investments. This role ensures accurate and timely trade settlement, cash flow processing, and data integrity within loan investment portfolios. The manager will work closely with the front office bank loan team to ensure proper treatment of more complex transactions and portfolio holdings. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of syndicated bank loans, a strong understanding of loan agency and custody platforms, and a proven ability to manage operations teams and processes in a fast-paced investment environment. This is a remote role with required travel to the Farmington office several times per month.
What you will do
- Loan closing: Oversee day-to-day operations of loan closing, including review of trade details, signing of loan documentation, AML/KYC, movement of wires to fund bank loan trades, and related activities.
- Daily processing and workflows: Ensure bank loan activity (e.g., paydowns, rollovers, interest payments) is processed accurately and timely in various systems. Implement best practices and workflows to deliver accurate performance, compliance, accounting, and reporting. Identify opportunities to automate processes and controls where appropriate.
- Reconciliations and controls: Oversee daily review and reconciliation of loan positions and transactions between the Trade Order Management System, agent banks, and downstream systems. Ensure timely resolution of issues and maintain controls related to performance, valuation, and data quality.
- Client relations: As a Registered Investment Advisor, SIM invests on behalf of institutional clients requiring detailed information about investments. Provide information timely and accurately and maintain client relationships. Participate in prospective clients' due diligence processes, including questionnaires and in-person meetings.
- Management: Provide guidance, training, and hands-on leadership to a small team. Develop pathways for career and skills advancement. Collaborate with other teams and senior management to align goals and share knowledge. Stay current with market practices, regulatory changes, and industry standards affecting loan operations.

Compensation
Salary Range: $103,300 - $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus programs
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or equivalent work experience
- At least eight years working with bank loans from an operational perspective, with at least three years in a people manager or team lead role
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail with analytical orientation
- Ability to multitask and work independently and in a team
- High motivation and initiative
- Results-focused with flexibility to work extra hours as needed
- Knowledge of the bank loan trade lifecycle and/or supporting a trading business
- Technical knowledge of syndicated loan processes and current best practices and regulations
- Track record of leading system implementations, automation, and process improvements
- Ability to improve processes using technology
- Experience with LSTA documentation and terms
- Familiarity with syndicated loans and loan-based software
- Advanced Excel (including VBA) and automation
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI (Power Query)
- SQL querying abilities preferred
- Ability to map operational workflows using Visio, Lucidchart, or Miro
- Interest and ability to use AI tools
- Programming experience (e.g., Python) preferred
- High school diploma required
