Job description

Position Summary:


The SYFOVRE Strategy Lead is accountable for leading a cross-functional team (Development, Medical, Medical Advisor, Commercial, Technical Operations, and Corporate Strategy) to develop and to drive cross-functional alignment of integrated strategies from ideation through life-cycle management. This role has broad impact on development, regulatory, and commercialization strategy, reporting to the Chief Business Officer.


This individual will provide leadership across drug development activities from POC through commercialization, ensuring the achievement of both program and Apellis goals. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and entrepreneurial leader that is well-versed in drug development and commercialization. This individual will be a strong influencer who can integrate multiple perspectives effectively, align stakeholders across functions and organization levels, problem solve and achieve the program goals.



Key Responsibilities Include:



  • Serve as the single point of accountability for overall asset strategy, leading a cross-functional team (Development, Medical, Medical Advisor, Commercial, Technical Operations & Corporate Strategy) from ideation through life-cycle management.

  • Own and drive strategic direction through the Strategy Team, including development of Integrated Asset Strategy, Indication Selection, and Target Product Profiles, and to drive cross-functional alignment of development strategy, regulatory strategy, launch sequencing, 3M strategy, and lifecycle strategy management.

  • Serve as the conduit to the Executive Committee for program strategies and performance against strategic initiatives.

  • Drive governance to ensure functional teams develop recommendations, and Strategy Teams evaluates these against strategic objectives. Manage issue resolution with a clear escalation path to the Executive Committee.

  • Provide matrix leadership for cross-functional team ensuring budget and resourcing is allocated for achievement of project scope, timelines, and objectives to maximize the value of the asset.

  • Ensure alignment between Pipeline Team management of the research portfolio and corporate strategy through proof of concept, as appropriate.

  • Serve as a core member of the Portfolio Prioritization Committee (PPC) responsible for strategy and portfolio prioritization at the corporate level.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration where functional experts participate in working teams aligned to deliverables with shared accountability for outcomes.

  • Establish and maintain regular cross-functional touchpoints focused on execution alignment.

  • Serve as an internal and external ambassador for the asset and its therapeutic area, fostering broad engagement to cultivate strategic relationships and enabling overall integration of external insights to inform program strategies


Education, Registration & Certification:



  • MBA or equivalent business experience

  • Advanced degrees in Life Sciences (PhD, MD, M.Sc., Pharm.D., or equivalent) preferred


Experience:



  • 10-15 years of biopharmaceutical experience in R&D and Commercialized products

  • Proven track record as a cross-functional leader in matrixed environments

  • Demonstrated success in program/portfolio management

  • Strong understanding of drug development process from POC through approval and launch

  • Experience with strategic planning and lifecycle management
