Job Summary: Performs routine manual work in the cleaning and upkeep of a designated complex or building to provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment for learning, play, and development.
Essential Job Functions
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean.
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Shovel, plow, and sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as needed.
- Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly during building occupancy.
- Raise the U.S. flag at or before 8:00 a.m. and lower it at or after 3:30 p.m. on school days.
- Wash all windows inside and outside at least twice a year, or more frequently if necessary.
- Keep grounds free from trash and perform yard chores such as grass cutting and trimming.
- Make minor repairs and report major repairs needed to the head custodian.
- Maintain mechanical equipment on a regular schedule.
- Report damage to school property to the principal.
- Remain on premises during school hours and authorized extended hours.
- Manage opening and closing of the building daily, ensuring doors, windows, and lights are secured or turned off as appropriate.
- Keep an inventory of supplies and requisition replacements.
- Move furniture or equipment as needed.
- Follow laws and procedures for trash disposal.
- Maintain the safety of the swimming pool if applicable, including water testing and refilling.
- Conduct electrical safety inspections periodically.
- Perform other assigned duties.

Knowledge:
- Cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Building maintenance including painting, plumbing, and carpentry.

- Perform manual labor for extended periods.

- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Pass a background check.
- Work flexible hours as needed.
