Job summary

Gestalt Community Schools is seeking a Dean to join the school-based leadership team in Tennessee. You will partner with the principal to implement instructional improvements, support teachers, and align practice with standards and curriculum frameworks.

The role emphasizes coaching, PLC facilitation, and data-driven guidance for scholars. The Dean collaborates with the principal to set academic goals, deliver professional development, and ensure high-quality instruction across classrooms.

Qualifications

• Teaching or administrative licensure in Tennessee required.
• Minimum 4+ years of teaching experience at Level 4-5 with demonstrated gap-closure competency.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines and to work with adult learners.
• Familiarity with iMAC, Google Drive, Digital Content, SchoolNet & Schoology.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate teacher understanding and implementation of standards via school-wide PLCs.
• Lead professional development aligning with GCS GLOE and Curriculum Frameworks.
• Coach teachers to progressively release responsibility and improve practice.
• Analyze classroom practice through observations, data, and student work.
• Provide direct feedback to teachers based on data and practice.
• Deliver training for staff development meetings; assist principal with academic goals.

Gestalt Community Schools is a system of K--12 college--preparatory charter schools in targeted Tennessee communities. GCS schools provide strong academic outcomes for their scholars through initiatives including meaningful community involvement. GCS catalyzes community leadership to help revitalize the neighborhood as it operates its schools in that community. Instead of debating whether education impacts the community or vice versa, GCS believes that the most effective method to support student achievement is an integration of education and community (a true \"gestalt\").

The Dean is a school--based administrative position and is a member of the school's leadership team. Deans work closely with the school's principal to implement, model, develop, and improve the overall instructional program. Are school-level leaders who serve as site--based technology support for teachers and scholars. School-level leadership responsibilities include all aspects of monitoring, assessing, and guidance of overall academic and enrichment programs offered by the school. Deans support all facets of the cultural and operational expectations as outlined by Gestalt Community Schools.

Deans work closely with teachers to guide the implementation of the school's instruction model, curriculum and instructional support services. As part of the administrative team, deans have other duties and administrative assignments under the direction of the school principal.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate teacher’s understanding and implementation of the Common Core State Standards, ACT College Readiness Standards by developing and executing school-wide PLCs


• Facilitate the implementation of GCS GLOE and Curriculum Frameworks through training and observational feedback;


• Support teachers’ AMO and personal goals by using coaching strategies that gradually release responsibility for implementing instructional practices to the teacher (ex. co--planning, modeling, co-- teaching, side--by side coaching, and observing)


• Consistently analyze teacher practice through ongoing classroom observations, data analysis, and examination of student work


• Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice and data


• Delivers training for school and GCS professional development meetings


• Works with the school principal to create, develop and implement academic goals

Requirements

• Tennessee Teaching and/ or Admin License ( Required)


• 4+ Years of teaching experience at Level 4-5 with demonstrated competency of gap closure;


• Ability to manage several projects and meet deadlines;


• Experience presenting and working with adult teachers;


• Knowledge of adult learning theory;


• Ability and desire to motivate adult learners to improve professional practices;


• Initiative to develop systems and structures to improve teacher practices within your school;


• Strong content knowledge and teaching pedagogy;


• Working knowledge, understanding, and belief in the GLOE & Curriculum Frameworks, Common Core;


• State Standards and ACT College Readiness Standards;


• Effective written and oral communication skills;


• Demonstrates knowledge of iMAC and Google Drive Software, Digital Content, SchoolNet & Schoology.
