Job summary

Carolina Container Company in Hickory, NC is seeking an experienced Switcher/Yard Jockey to operate tractor-trailers and bobtails safely and efficiently in compliance with state laws.

The role requires CDL, at least two years as a Truck Driver and two years as a Switcher/Yard Jockey, with strong knowledge of trucking regulations, ability to complete paperwork, and dedication to safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL license required.
• Minimum two years' experience as a Truck Driver.
• Minimum two years' experience as Switcher/Yard Jockey.
• Extensive knowledge of trucking rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Frequent sitting for extended periods.
• Load/unload or assist in loading/unloading finished product in or from trailer.
• Inspect load to ensure proper loading and correct load before leaving.
• Verify count while unloading as allowed by customers.
• Transport load by required route while observing traffic laws and safety.
• Obtain shipping bill of lading and signatures, return paperwork to shipping.
• Complete daily timecard, driver logs, and other reports timely.
• Report maintenance items to supervision and maintain truck/trailers.
• Comply with company policies and maintain good housekeeping.

Job Details: Level: Experienced, Job Location: NC- Hickory (2) - Hickory, NC 28601, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: Technical School Certification, Travel Percentage: None, Job Shift: First Shift, Job Category: Transportation, SUMMARY: The Switcher position is responsible for safely and efficiently operator a tractor-trailer or bobtail truck in accordance with state laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Frequent sitting for extended periods of time.
• Load/unload or assist in loading/unloading finished product in or from trailer.
• Inspect load in trailer to ensure it is properly loaded and it is the correct load before leaving.
• Verify count while truck is being unloaded, as allowed by customers.
• Transport load by required route to proper destination while observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Obtain shipping bill of lading and necessary signatures and return completed paperwork to shipping office.
• Complete daily timecard, driver logs, and all other work reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Report any maintenance items to supervision immediately. Be proactive in the maintenance of the truck and trailers.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Duties may be expanded upon and additional duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
