Job summary

Carolina Container Company is seeking a Switcher to operate a tractor-trailer or bobtail truck in a safe, efficient manner in accordance with state laws. Responsibilities include loading/unloading, inspecting loads, verifying counts, and maintaining paperwork.

The role requires CDL and at least two years of truck driving plus Switcher/Yard Jockey experience, with knowledge of trucking regulations. Expect physical demands and a dynamic work environment in North Carolina.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CDL required to operate commercial trucks.
• Minimum of two years experience as a Truck Driver.
• Minimum of two years experience as a Switcher/Yard Jockey.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Frequent sitting for extended periods.
• Load/unload or assist in loading/unloading finished product in or from trailer.
• Inspect load in trailer to ensure it is properly loaded and it is the correct load before leaving.
• Verify count while truck is being unloaded, as allowed by customers.
• Transport load by required route with traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Obtain shipping bill of lading and signatures; return paperwork to shipping office.
• Complete daily timecard, driver logs, and reports accurately and timely.
• Report maintenance items; be proactive in maintenance of truck/trailers.
• Comply with company policies; maintain safety and housekeeping.
• Other duties may be assigned.

SUMMARY:

The Switcher position is responsible for safely and efficiently operator a tractor-trailer or bobtail truck in accordance with state laws.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Frequent sitting for extended periods of time.
• Load/unload or assist in loading/unloading finished product in or from trailer.
• Inspect load in trailer to ensure it is properly loaded and it is the correct load before leaving.
• Verify count while truck is being unloaded, as allowed by customers.
• Transport load by required route to proper destination while observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Obtain shipping bill of lading and necessary signatures and return completed paperwork to shipping office.
• Complete daily timecard, driver logs, and all other work reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Report any maintenance items to supervision immediately. Be proactive in the maintenance of the truck and trailers.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Duties may be expanded upon and additional duties may be assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
