Job description

The Switchboard Operator role is responsible for prompt and efficient telephone communications within and outside the organization, including managing paging announcements via the public address system, greeting the public, and providing information to patients and visitors according to established policies. Responsibilities also include managing the paging system, hospital alarm systems, and responding to emergency situations. The role involves close collaboration with clinical care teams, security, facilities, patients, and the public. Additional functions within the Patient Access service line and maintaining the master directory may be required.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  1. Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Related experience such as customer service or dispatch/switchboard operation preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements: N/A
  5. Preferred Skills: Computer and data entry experience with Microsoft Word, email, internet communication, and the ability to work accurately with electronic systems is preferred.
