We have an immediate need for 1st shift (6:00 am to 2:30 pm), 2nd (2:00 pm - 10:30 pm) shifts. Set Up Machinist who know how to set up Swiss machines.
Summary
Plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to operate and set up machines as well as comprehending machine programming. This includes cutting, shaping, or forming metal work pieces to specifications.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interprets complicated drawings, program sheets, instructions, and process sheets.
- Performs diversified operations on numerical control lathes and machining centers.
- Performs a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
- Reviews job traveler, setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished work piece.
- Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, fixtures, attachments, and work piece on machine according to setup instructions.
- Verifies that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding milling and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications.
- Prepares, pre-sets, selects and installs cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine.
- Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
- Ability to enter commands or make adjustments to correct conditions that are out-of-tolerance or operating unusually. Such as adjusting machine feed and speed and changing cutters according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
- Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Understands how to operate a variety of inspection equipment to ensure quality standards and specifications are met.
- Measures work piece for conformance to specifications.
- Ability to recognize discrepant parts and notify lead/supervisor/manager.
- Cleans machine, work area, tooling, gages, and parts.
- Performs deburring as required.
- Loads program onto usb or disk from database, in machine controller or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database.
- Discusses programming errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
- Trains operators on process and procedures
- Inducts operators following a completed and proven set up to make parts that meet efficiency and quality standards.
- Ability to communicate by leaving shift notes.
- Performs preventative maintenance – follow work instructions or checklist.
- Understands the function of the E stop button for safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with knowledge of programming software such as SolidWorks and Mastercam.
- Knowledge of the medical device manufacturing industry preferred.
- Experience with machining of various materials: stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, etc.
- Strong understanding/experience of setting up Milling, Turning, Swiss-turning machines.
- Knowledge of G-codes and M-codes, MasterCam or other programming software.
- Knowledge of cutters and inserts to be capable of selecting the right tools for the machining operations based on the component material, hardness and drawing tolerances.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M.
